You will want to be a bit careful today when making your MLB picks because there could be a lot of player movement ahead of Tuesday’s Trade Deadline.

Here are today’s player props with the MLB odds coming from BetOnline (visit our BetOnline Review)

Boston Red Sox vs. Houston Astros

Monday, August 01, 2022 – 08:00 PM EDT at Minute Maid Park

Nathan Eovaldi

  • Over/Under 2.5 Earned Runs Allowed

ESPN has the national telecast of this matchup. I mentioned above that some guys could be traded today and that might include Red Sox pitcher Nathan Eovaldi (4-3, 4.33 ERA). The 32-year-old, who is actually from Houston, is set for free agency after the season and Boston may prefer to get something for him instead of him walking.

Eovaldi’s value isn’t great right now, though, as in three starts since returning from an injury he’s 0-1 with an 11.08 ERA. He was obliterated at Fenway Park by the Astros on May 17, allowing nine runs and eight hits – a whopping five homers – in just 1.2 innings.

Eovaldi needed just five pitches to get the Astros out in order in the first inning but then Houston hit the five home runs off him as part of a nine-run second to tie the MLB record for most homers in an inning.

  • Yordan Alvarez
  • Kyle Tucker
  • Jeremy Peña
  • Michael Brantley
  • Yuli Gurriel

All four of them went deep for the Astros, who also set a franchise mark for homers in an inning.

MLB Prop Pick: Nathan Eovaldi Over 2.5 Earned Runs (-120) at BetOnline

Astros Batter Props

  • Yordan Alvarez: Over/Under 1.5 Total Bases
  • Jose Altuve: At Least 2 Hits + Runs + RBIs

Alvarez is 4-for-4 in his regular-season career off Eovaldi with that homer and a double. Jose Altuve is 7-for-21 with two doubles and three homers. Your Honor, I rest my case.

New York Mets vs. Washington Nationals

Monday, August 01, 2022 - 07:05 PM EDT at Nationals Park

Max Scherzer

  • To Record A Win?
  • Over/Under 2.5 Earned Runs Allowed

This game will mean a bit more to Max Scherzer as the former Nationals right-hander returns to D.C. with the Mets. Scherzer will return to Nationals Park for his 98th career start in D.C. and his second as a visitor. Only two pitchers have started there more often:

  • Stephen Strasburg (128)
  • Gio Gonzalez (100).

Scherzer has the best K/9 (11.89), WHIP (0.97), K/BB (5.73), and H/9 (6.63) in the ballpark's history (minimum 100.0 innings pitched).

The right-hander made his New York debut at Nationals Park on April 8, allowing three runs. I don’t see him giving up that many runs tonight as Scherzer has a 1.39 ERA since returning from about a six-week injury absence. He comes off throwing seven shutout innings vs. the Yankees on his 38th birthday last week.

Scherzer was the second oldest pitcher to throw at least seven shutout innings on their birthday. Sad Sam Jones threw a shutout on his 42nd birthday for the White Sox on July 26, 1934.

MLB Prop Pick: Max Scherzer Under 2.5 Earned Runs Allowed (-170) at BetOnline

MLB Prop Pick: Max Scherzer to Record a Win (-130) at BetOnline

Patrick Corbin

  • Over/Under 2.5 Earned Runs Allowed

On the flip side for our MLB picks, maybe the worst pitcher in baseball right now is Scherzer’s former teammate and lefty Patrick Corbin (4-14, 6.49), who is making a cool $23 million this season.

Corbin lasted just two-thirds of an inning last Wednesday at the Dodgers, allowing six runs and seven hits. The leftie had the shortest start of his 11-year major league career, failing to get out of the first inning for the first time in his 250 starts. Corbin has allowed at least four runs in four straight starts.

MLB Prop Pick: Patrick Corbin Over 2.5 Earned Runs Allowed (-165) at BetOnline

Pete Alonso and JD Davis (Mets)

  • Over/Under 1.5 Total Bases

Pete Alonso is red hot as it is and owns Corbin, going 12-for-33 with:

  • Four homers
  • Two doubles
  • Eight walks
  • Seven RBIs

JD Davis also hammers Corbin, batting 11-for-35 with:

  • Three doubles
  • Four homers
  • Four walks
  • Six RBIs

MLB Prop Pick: Pete Alonso Over 1.5 Total Bases (-112) at BetOnline

MLB Prop Pick: JD Davis Over 1.5 Total Bases (+140) at BetOnline
