We generally stay away from MLB matinees in this space simply because of the time it takes to write this story and then have it edited and posted, but we have little choice on Thursday with a light schedule and most of the games during the day.

Here are today’s player props with MLB odds BetOnline, one of BMR’s top-rated sportsbooks

Seattle Mariners vs. Oakland Athletics

Thursday, June 23, 2022 – 03:37 PM EDT at Oakland Coliseum

Robbie Ray

  • Over/Under 6.5 Strikeouts
  • Over/Under 2.5 Earned Runs Allowed

I’m not going to tell you which side to take in this game but will say that Seattle has won eight straight games in Oakland and the rebuilding/tanking A’s are 3-15 in June and have lost 17 of 20 overall.

Seattle’s rotation has allowed two earned runs or fewer in 11 consecutive games, the team's longest stretch since a franchise-record 12-game streak in 2014.

A's Horrific Offensive

The A’s are just a horrific offensive team. Seriously, name me one of their everyday players. The team’s leading hitter is Chad Pinder at .244. As a team, Oakland is hitting a laughable .209.

Thus, while Mariners left-hander Robbie Ray (6-6, 4.25 ERA) has moderately disappointed this season we like him big today.

Perhaps Ray is finding his 2021 Cy Young form as over his past two he has allowed just one run and six hits over 14 innings with 14 strikeouts.

This will be his fourth career start vs. the A’s and second with the Mariners: On May 25 vs. Oakland, he allowed three runs over six with 10 strikeouts.

Ty France vs. Christian Bethancourt

  • Most Total Bases

First baseman Ty France is making a case to be Seattle’s All-Star representative as he’s hitting .319 with 10 homers and 45 RBIs this season – he is 4-for-9 in this series.

France has 28 opposite-field hits this season, most in the American League and second-most in the majors.

France Performance

He has been on base via hit, walks, or hit-by-pitch 121 times, most in the AL. While Oakland starts its best pitcher today in Frankie Montas, France is 6-for-11 career off him with two doubles.

I’m not really sure why the book chose Christian Bethancourt as the player opposite France for this prop, but as we noted the A’s don’t have much to choose from.

Bethancourt is hitting .241 with four homers and 17 RBIs, which almost makes him the Oakland offensive MVP. Over the past seven days, Bethancourt is batting .071. He’s a 1-for-6 career of Ray.

Baltimore Orioles vs. Chicago White Sox

Thursday, June 23, 2022 – 08:10 PM EDT at Guaranteed Rate Field

Andrew Vaughn

  • At Least 2 Hits + Runs + RBIs

Series opener from the South Side of Chicago. In a vacuum, the White Sox should rout the Orioles tonight, but Chicago is absolutely obliterated by injury.

Not sure I’ve ever seen a game like the Pale Hose’s on Wednesday vs. Toronto when three different players left injured – led by superstar outfielder Luis Robert, who surely isn’t playing tonight.

Injured List

Infielder Danny Mendick, who has been a pleasant surprise, might have torn knee ligaments. Already on the injured list are:

  • catcher Yasmani Grandal
  • third baseman Yoan Moncada
  • outfielder Eloy Jimenez
  • closer Liam Hendriks

First baseman and former AL MVP Jose Abreu is playing through a sore knee.

Dean Kremer

  • Over/Under 14.5 Outs Recorded

Thus, while I’m not a huge fan of Orioles pitcher Dean Kremer (1-1, 2.35 ERA), I like him to at least get through five innings tonight against a watered-down lineup – this is our first “outs” prop of the year.

Kremer comes off an excellent outing vs. Tampa Bay with six shutout innings. Again, I don’t care if he wins the game, we just need him to go five innings.

White Sox Spring Move

This spring, the White Sox acquired Oakland A’s starting pitcher Frankie Montas and were told that it would take young slugger Andrew Vaughn to get Montas.

While Chicago still needs pitching, there’s no way Vaughn is going anywhere.  Vaughn is batting .333 on the season with seven homers and 31 RBIs and is 15-for-33 (.455) in his last seven games with three doubles, one home run, and two RBIs.

One huge difference of late has been Vaughn cutting down on strikeouts. Since May 22, Vaughn’s strikeout rate is at 13 percent. Last year as a rookie, that number was 21.5 percent. Vaughn has never faced Kremer.

MLB Pick: Kremer over 14.5 outs recorded (-135) with BetOnline
