There are 12 games on Thursday’s schedule, including an intriguing Shohei Ohtani pitching matchup at the Yankees – but that game starts too early for us to address. Here are five MLB prop player bets for Thursday with MLB odds from BetOnline, one of BMR’s top-rated sportsbooks.
Atlanta Braves vs. Colorado Rockies
Thursday, June 02, 2022 – 08:40 PM EDT at Coors Field
Atlanta vs. Rockies Game Preview
Hey, an Austin double for this series opener, and I wasn’t even planning that. It’s the first meeting of the season between the clubs.
Look, you may want to back some hitting props for a handful of Braves today. First off, Atlanta has totaled 14 runs in its past two games entering. Second, we all know Coors Field is a hitters’ paradise and weather conditions are very conducive for the ball to fly tonight.
Third, the Rockies allowed 14 and 13 runs in splitting a home doubleheader against Miami on Wednesday – and the Marlins aren’t as good offensively as the Braves. The Colorado bullpen is a bit thinned-out due to that doubleheader and closer Daniel Bard probably isn’t available at all after pitching two innings.
MLB Prop Bet: Austin Riley
- At Least 2 Hits + Runs + RBIs
We’ll go with Austin Riley as our Braves batter to back. Riley was 2-for-5 with his 13th homer of the season (a moonshot) and three RBIs on Wednesday in Arizona.
Riley has a 10-game hitting streak (two shy of career-high) during which he's batting.390 with five home runs. He has hammered lefties like Gomber this season with a .302 average, .413 OBP, and 1.035 OPS. Overall, Riley ranks fourth in baseball with eight balls hit at least 112.0 mph-or-harder.
- Over/Under 3.5 Earned Runs Allowed
Rox lefty Austin Gomber is 2-5 with a 5.51 ERA on the season. Last time out at Washington, he was murdered for eight runs and seven hits in just 1.1 innings.
MLB Prop Pick: Austin Gomber Over 3.5 Earned Runs (+110) with BetOnline
- At Least 2 Hits + Runs + RBIs
For our one Colorado hitting prop, we’ll go with second baseman Brendan Rodgers. Rodgers hit just .078 in April before batting .347 in May. So far, so good in June as in Game 2 of yesterday’s doubleheader win over Miami, Rodgers had three homers, including the walk-off winner in the bottom of the 10th inning.
He became the first MLB player with a walk-off for his third homer of a game since the Twins’ Eddie Rosario against Cleveland on June 3, 2018, and the first Rockies player to do it since Todd Hollandsworth on April 15, 2001, against the D-backs.
Rodgers has a 19-game hitting streak, a club record for a second baseman, and the Rockies’ longest run since Carlos González hit in 19 straight from July 18-Aug. 24, 2016. Rodgers is a 1-for-1 career off Braves starter Ian Anderson.
MLB Prop Pick: Brendan Rodgers With At Least 2 Hits + Runs + RBIs (-159) with BetOnline
San Francisco Giants vs. Miami Marlins
Thursday, June 02, 2022 – 06:40 PM EDT at loanDepot Park
The series opener between these teams and both are a bit banged up with a few everyday players on the injured list. Thus, I expect a lower-scoring game.
- Over/Under 2.5 Earned Runs
Maybe the hottest pitcher in the National League right now is Marlins right-hander Sandy Alcantara (5-2, 2.00 ERA, 63 Ks). In his past four starts, which date to May 11.
- He is 3-0 with a 0.84 ERA over 32.0 innings, pitching at least 7.0 innings in all four and allowing no more than one earned run in any of those games. He has struck out 32 batters in those 32.0 innings, including tying his career-high with a 14-strikeout performance against Atlanta last Saturday.
- He is the first pitcher since Gerrit Cole from September 8-18, 2019 to pitch 8.0 innings or more in three consecutive games.
- Alcantara is the first Marlins pitcher to pitch 8.0 innings or more in three consecutive games since Dontrelle Willis from Sept. 12-22, 2005.
- Sandy Alcantara has 484 strikeouts with Miami and tonight should become just the 11th pitcher in club history to punch out 500 with the Marlins and the second-fastest to do so.
MLB Prop Pick: Sandy Alcantara Under 2.5 Earned Runs (-165) with BetOnline
Alcantara vs. Alex Wood | Who Has Most Strikeouts?
The Giants' Alex Wood has 45 strikeouts on the season over nine starts with a high of seven and a low of three. Wood has yet to go even six full innings, so it’s tough for him to rack up a lot of Ks.
MLB Prop Pick: Sandy Alcantara for More Strikeouts than Wood (-137) with BetOnline
