Best MLB Player Prop Bets for June 16

As usual, Thursday is a bit slower around Major League Baseball and there are a few matinees so we are a bit limited with our picks but fully expect to keep profiting. Here are today’s player props bets with odds from BetOnline, one of BMR’s top-rated sportsbooks and betting sites.

Los Angeles Angels vs. Seattle Mariners

Thursday, June 16, 2022 – 10:10 PM EDT at T-Mobile Park

MLB Prop Bet on Shohei Ohtani

  • Over/Under 2.5 Earned Runs Allowed
  • Over/Under 0.5 Hits As Batter

Has a player ever broken up a no-hitter one game and then thrown one the next? I tried to find out but really couldn’t – it certainly hasn’t happened in the modern era, but it’s possible – albeit very unlikely – that Shohei Ohtani could do it tonight in Seattle.

On Wednesday at the Los Angeles Dodgers, Ohtani had a one-out triple in the ninth inning to break up the no-hit bid of Dodgers southpaw Tyler Anderson, who was on his whopping 123rd pitch.

Anderson became the first Dodgers pitcher to lose a no-hitter in the ninth inning or later since Rich Hill, who lost his no-hit bid in the 10th inning against the Pittsburgh Pirates on August 23, 2017.

Shohei Ohtani Stats

  • Ohtani is 4-4 with a 3.64 ERA on the season and 71 strikeouts.
  • He has been a bit inconsistent at times but comes off a great outing vs. Boston where he allowed just one run and four hits over seven innings in a victory.
  • He has allowed two-or-fewer runs in seven of his 10 pitching starts this year and in three career starts vs. Seattle is 2-0 with a 2.37 ERA and 26 strikeouts in 19 innings.
  • As a batter, Ohtani is on a 10-game hitting streak to raise his average from .240 to .259.
  • Ohtani hasn’t faced touted Mariners rookie right-hander George Kirby (1-1, 3.65 ERA), who faces the Halos for the first time.

Philadelphia Phillies vs. Washington Nationals

Thursday, June 16, 2022 – 07:05 PM EDT at Nationals Park

MLB Bet on Zack Wheeler

  • Over/Under 2.5 Earned Runs

Phillies right-hander Zack Wheeler (5-3, 2.84 ERA) was the National League Cy Young runner-up last year. He didn’t start all that great this season, but that may have been the shortened spring training, etc. But Wheeler has rediscovered his 2021 form as over his past eight starts has a 1.42 ERA while holding opponents to a .203 average.

He hasn’t faced the Nationals this season. Wheeler might catch a break as well as 2021 NL MVP runner-up Juan Soto may miss another game. He was expected to return to the lineup on Wednesday from a sore knee but wasn’t in there.

Soto is one of few Nationals with good splits against Wheeler, batting .314 with two homers and 11 walks in 35 official at-bats.

MLB Prop Pick: Zack Wheeler Under 2.5 Earned Runs (-145) with BetOnline

MLB Prop Bet on Alec Bohm

  • At Least 2 Hits + Runs + RBIs

The hitter we like in this one, though, is the Phillies’ Alec Bohm – certainly our first prop this season on him.

Bohm went 2-for-4 with a run scored in Wednesday’s comeback win over the Marlins and is 5-for-12 career with two homers career off struggling Nationals starter Patrick Corbin (3-8, 6.65 ERA), who has been one of the NL’s worst pitchers this season.

MLB Prop Pick: Alec Bohm with at Least 2 Hits + Runs + RBIs (-154) with BetOnline

Tampa Bay Rays vs. New York Yankees

Thursday, June 16, 2022 – 07:05 PM EDT at Yankee Stadium

MLB Prop Bet on Luis Severino

  • Over/Under 6.5 strikeouts

Right-hander Luis Severino has a 1.67 ERA and a .168 opponents' batting average over his past five starts and has improved to 4-1 with a 2.80 ERA overall while holding opponents to a .213 batting average. He has struck out double-digit batters in back-to-back starts for the fourth time in his career.

The Rays did score four runs off Severino on May 29 in St. Petersburg but still struck out eight times. Tampa Bay is a very free-swinging team.

I’m just bummed that Rays' outfielder Kevin Kiermaier won’t be available today after leaving Wednesday with an injury because I would have faded him on a hit prop as Kiermaier is an ugly 3-for-28 career off Severino with 13 strikeouts.

The only Tampa player with career success off Severino is Ji-Man Choi, who is 3-for-6 with a homer and two walks, but I’m not playing him to get a hit on tonight's game (he’s -180 to get one).

MLB Prop Pick: Luis Severino Over 6.5 Strikeouts (-124) with BetOnline
