We’re back at it again on Thursday with more MLB action to play. There are some really great matchups on the diamond tonight and we will take full advantage. We have put in the effort, done the homework and are now ready to find the winners. Let’s hit it, brother!
Philadelphia Phillies vs. Washington Nationals
Thursday, May 13, 2021 – 01:05 PM EDT at Nationals Park
The Washington Nationals are off to a struggling start to their 2021 campaign. In fact, this team hardly resembles the World Series Champions of 2019. A key contributor to that team was starting pitcher Patrick Corbin who takes the mound in this matchup. Corbin is an astounding 1-3 with a 7.36 ERA. He is downright awful so far this season. He will face a Phillies offense that is considerably more potent than his own for Washington.
The Phillies are playing well, if not spectacular. Their offense is hitting on all cylinders most nights and the starting pitching has been pretty good. Today’s starter, Zach Eflin has been solid if not remarkable, going 2-1 with a 3.38 ERA.
This is a matchup where the Phillies have a decided advantage on the mound. I also think Philadelphia has a considerable offensive advantage over this version of the Nationals. It’s an inter-division battle, so anything can happen, but at a very short price, I will back the team with the better starter, better offense, who has been playing better baseball.

St. Louis Cardinals vs. Milwaukee Brewers
Thursday, May 13, 2021 - 01:40 PM EDT at American Family Field
This National League Central matchup is all about the pitching from the gambling perspective.
The St. Louis Cardinals are hot coming into this game. They are 7-3 in their last ten. The offense has been hitting exceptionally well lately, but the pitching has been stellar. In three of their last five games they have given up one run or fewer. Today they will send Jack Flaherty to the mound and he has been very good so far this season. He is 6-0 with an ERA of 2.83. There is simply very little not to like about what Flaherty has done so far this season.
The Brewers have struggled a great deal this season and coming into Wednesday they are 3-7 in their previous ten games. Their offense has been abysmal and unable to generate runs on a consistent basis, they have really missed star Christian Yelich. However, one bright spot for the Brewers has been today’s starter, Corbin Burnes. Burnes is 2-2, but only has an ERA of 1.53. He has been excellent so far this season.
With two quality starters on the mound, this game gives us a chance to play a total. Not the full game, because I don’t trust bullpens, but the first five innings which will likely have these two guys on the mound the entire time.
