Will the offense carry over into tonight’s game against the Angels? Let’s see what the MLB odds tell us at the top sportsbooks!

Los Angeles Angels vs. Philadelphia Phillies

Saturday, June 04, 2022 – 07:15 PM EDT at Citizens Bank Park

Phillies vs. Angels Analysis

The Philadelphia Phillies cut ties with their manager Joe Girardi and then proceed to dominate the Angels with 10 runs last night.

The Phillies are currently just 23-29 on the season but it might be time to worry more about the Angels at this point.

The Angels are one loss away from going back to .500 after a very solid start to the season. This is the Los Angeles team we’re used to after all.

Zack Wheeler on the Mound

With Zack Wheeler on the mound for the Phillies, the Angels could seriously be falling back to .500 with a loss today.

Will that be how the game plays out? Here are our betting picks and predictions for the game between the Angels and Phillies on Saturday night.

Who Pitches for the Angels Today?

The Los Angeles Angels will send out Michael Lorenzen, who has been one of the more bright spots for the Angels in the pitching staff this season.

Lorenzen has a 3.19 ERA along with a 5-2 record to start the season. However, in the last 30 days, Lorenzen has had a 4.30 xFIP with 18.1% of strikeouts.

He’s not blowing away hitters but is earning 56.5% of ground balls and allowing just 18.8% of line drives in the last 30 days.

Who Pitches for the Phillies Today?

On the other hand, Zack Wheeler has been electric, with a 2.76 xFIP in the last 30 days. He’s earning 33% of strikeouts and limiting walks to just 4% on the season.

Despite all of these terrific numbers, Wheeler has allowed a BABIP of .344, proving he’s been a bit unlucky lately.

Still, Wheeler has a 3.16 ERA on the season and has been very good recently.

Phillies Lineup Analysis

Maybe things are starting to turn in the right direction for the Phillies.

  • The offense came alive last night but in the last 30 days, the Phillies have a .138 ISO and wOBA of .281 using the projected lineup against righties.
  • The Phillies are striking out 24.6% of the time against righties in the last 30 days and earning just over 7% of walks.

Angels Lineup Analysis

  • On the other hand, the Angels have a .212 ISO and wOBA of .328 in the last 30 days against righties but also strike out 26.6% of the time with just 8.2% of walks using the projected lineup.
  • There’s more power in the Angels lineup in the last 30 days but ultimately, Wheeler has kept the power down in the last 30 days against both sides of the plate.

Angels vs. Phillies Game Prediction

Michael Lorenzen has been solid this season for the Angels. While he’s taking on a rejuvenated Phillies lineup, I still believe Lorenzen can get through this tough order.

The Phillies haven’t been consistent at all this year and there’s no reason to believe that the offense will be now.

The Phillies only have Bryce Harper hitting for a high wOBA and ISO against righties in the last 30 days consistently.

The rest of the lineup has been embarrassingly bad. Plus, while the Angels have hit righties at a high rate this season, it looks like Taylor Ward will be out of the lineup with an injury.

That won’t help the Angels’ case against Zack Wheeler, who analytically, has been one of the best pitchers in the game in the last 30 days.

MLB Pick for Today

I’ll take the under in this game. Wheeler is earning 48.4% of ground balls while also earning 33% of strikeouts. That’s really good stuff.

Plus, he won’t have to worry about Taylor Ward, who was injured in yesterday’s game in the outfield. That helps too.

On the other hand, based on analytics, the Phillies have been awful offensively against righties.

Sometimes when you get a new manager, things turn for a day or two, but that day was yesterday. It’s time to get back to reality.

Who to Bet On?

Therefore, I’ll take the Under 8 for my MLB pick of the day. I’m not trusting the Phillies to do much offensively. Don’t let yesterday fool you.
