The Victorian Government\’s department of Gaming and Racing informed Betfair in writing that as it is not currently licensed with any state or territory it was operating in contravention of the laws of Victoria.
The betting exchange was told it was encouraging Victorian punters to break the law if it continued to accept bets.
Betfair was also asked to display on its website a notice informing Victorian punters they were breaking the law by placing bets with the betting exchange.
