Ladbrokes buys Jack Brown

The British bookmaker bought the betting shop chain Jack Brown for a consideration of £76m payable to Gary and Jacqueline Brown, members of the family who has run the business since 1927.

Over the next 18 months Ladbrokes will spend £12m rebranding and refurbishing the 141 Jack Brown shops, including 127 shops in Wales and 14 shops in the Birmingham area.

Ladbrokes expects the estate to contribute £8m to second-half earnings.

The acquisition takes the number of Ladbrokes shops worlwide to 2,567, including 2260 in the UK, Channel Islands and Ireland, and 307 shops in Belgium. In addition, the firm runs betting facilities at 61 sporting venues throughout the UK, including 18 of the 20 Premier League stadia.
