I think you should sit tight until you get an update from IBAS. If that isn't encouraging, I would make a complaint to WH's regulator. You said the bet was in Euros, so I'm guessing you're not based in the UK, in which case you'll need to contact the Gibraltar Gambling Commission (www.gibraltar.gov.gi/new/gambling-commissioners-advice-complainants) and complete a copy of their Complaint Resolution Request Form (you can download it from their site). I'm afraid it could be quite a while before this is resolved, but keep chasing William Hill as they'll be hoping you just give up and go away. I find their whole behaviour in this matter appalling - BMR, is this really the sort of thing you expect from a bookmaker on your Green List?

I am afraid there is still no update on this case and the investigation could take months as previously advised. We will contact you when there is an update.

In the event you wish to escalate this matter, I would suggest you make contact with our regulatory body, the Gibraltar Gambling Commissioner's Office, who will investigate our handling of the matter on your behalf. Please note however that our regulators are not investigating the match itself and as such they are also awaiting a response from the relevant sporting body before they are able to make a decision as to whether we are obliged to release the funds.

Kind Regards,

Adam Ward

I think I would go ahead and contact the Gibraltar Gambling Commission, although I doubt it will produce a resolution of this any sooner. I think IBAS might prove to be your best bet in the long run, but that is likely to mean a lengthy wait unfortunately.

If you're not based in the UK (where you could go through the UK Small Claims Court at relatively little expense), taking WH to court isn't really an option, as you would have to do this in Gibraltar and I shudder to think how much that might cost.

In cases like this, sadly, all the cards seem stacked in favour of the bookmaker and against the player - a fact not lost on the bookmaker. Keeping chasing WH, though, and don't let them off the hook over this.

Yes, that's certainly worth a try - WH won't relish the negative publicity.

I just don't know why William Hill behave like this occasionally (as I've said above, this is not the first time). They don't need to and it makes absolutely no sense for them to do so. BMR, what about a temporary trip to the Orange List?

Thank you for your email.

We can confirm that we are not in a position to supply the details of the supporting body who is investigating the fight.

Please be advised that as you have contacted our regulators unfortunately we are not in a position to discuss this matter with you further.

We will await our regulators to make contact.

We hope this explains our position.

We wish you well for the future.

What they seem to be implying is that there is some body other than the official body governing the fight investigating it.Only even if that were true,it wouldn't entitle them not to pay out on the official result.Try asking them which of their rules they are relying on not to pay out,now that the result has been officialy determined.

Thanks for the advice...surly tho quincunx if the sporting body are not investigating the fight then who is..any time I ask this they say these are the terms and conditions that you signed up to on William hill...I agree they just want me to go away it's as simple as that anytime I ask questions they just ignore them..I just can't believe it's over a month now and still this is going on..they are making up the rules as they go along. Il email them the question quincunx and il post the reply il be very surprised if they reply.

Did you send William Hill a copy of the email from the Sporting body officially responsible for the fight confirming that it is not under investigation ? If you did, then they would have to come up with some reason why they still won't pay.So then the words 'we are not in a position to supply the details of the supporting body who is investigating the fight' implies that it was not necessarily the sporting body who you got the email from.
However,William Hill would normally pay out on the official result of a sporting event - especially when the Sporting body officially responsible for that event confirms that the event is not under investigation. So then if they decide not to in this case, they should be prepared to point out the bit in their rules that allows them not to pay.It has to have been there before you placed the bet,so I really feel that it is worth asking them to point it out,in case their rules/terms and conditions did not have such a clause.

Hi Quincunx...I emailed the pro boxing association here as the boxer is from Ireland...they told me the as the fight was in New York that the New York state athletic commission was the sporting body..I Rang them and was told by them that the fight is not under investigation I said could i get this in a email..which they send me and I send this all to William hill....Quincunx I was told its a security check on my account this will take a while then im told that the fight is under investigation.
this was a email a couple of days ago I received

I am sorry to hear you are unhappy with the states of your account

I have now completed a review and unfortunately we have not been contacted with an update from the sporting bodies who are currently investigating the match in question.

Whilst I appreciate you may feel frustrated with this matter, our actions have been undertaken in strict accordance with the terms and conditions you agreed to upon registration:

11.4 If:

11.4.1 we have reasonable grounds to believe that You have participated in or have been connected with any form of Prohibited Practice (and the basis of our belief shall include the use by us (and by our gaming partners and our other suppliers) of any fraud, cheating and collusion detection practices which are used in the gambling and gaming industry at the relevant time)

then, (including in connection with any suspension and/or termination of Your Account) we shall have the right, in respect of Your Account (and/or any other account held by You with a William Hill group company) to withhold the whole or part of the balance and/or recover from the account the amount of any deposits, pay-outs, bonuses or winnings which have been affected by or are in any way attributable to any of the event(s) contemplated in this paragraph

11.4. The rights set out in this paragraph 11.4 are without prejudice to any other rights (including any common law rights) that we may have against you, whether under the Terms of Use or otherwise

Should the sporting body in question respond and advise us that this match wasn't manipulated then we will review your case again with a view to settling your bets and releasing your funds. However until it is confirmed that this match was played legitimately, we will remain unwilling to settle your bets or lift the sanctions which have been placed on your account.

Kind Regards,

Why won't WH identify the 'sporting bodies' who are allegedly investigating this fight and explain what authority these organisations have to do so? I can't see how anyone bar the New York State Athletic Commission can legitimately investigate the bout. It seems to me that WH can simply say they are awaiting a response from these invisible organisations for evermore, thereby avoiding payment for evermore.

I asked them this question so many times...just told we can't give that information out..I just can't believe they are going on like this it's laughable if you ask me..as you said they want me to just go away it's just madness how you can place a bet and win and not get paid over the fight being invesagation...imagine a customer finding out that there is no such thing...just making up the rules as they go along. They hate you winning yet love you losing
