The UK (Gambling Licencing and Advertising) Act of 2014 takes effect 1 October 2014. The act requires remote bookmakers to receive a licence from the UK Gambling Commission in order to continue legally serving the UK market. Up until now, operators have only been required to be subject to the laws of another EEA state such as Gibraltar, or what's referred to as a 'white list jurisdiction' such as Isle of Man or Alderney in order to serve or advertise to the UK market. Only bookmakers which operate equipment used for internet or mobile wagering that is physically located in the UK - which includes all of England, Wales, Scotland, or Northern Island - have been required to hold a licence from the UK Gambling Commission.
