The NBA Finals and Stanley Cup Finals are approaching and we have the latest odds and what to look for in each series. As we have talked about, baseball is confounding, and we bring you the details of the latest occurrences.

Tampa Bay had their OTA’s recently and we have video of proof of a QB battle in the making in the post-Tom Brady. On a similar note, Conor McGregor tossed out the first pitch at Wrigley. (He won’t get a tryout)

This and everything else we could dig up for you.

About Last Night…

MLB

While people are shocked at the results of an NFL Sunday or College Football weekend, baseball doesn’t get enough credit for its absurdity. Granted, every team plays at least five or six times a week, which dilutes the madness, but sometimes it goes beyond madness. Here are two “perfect” examples.

Tampa Bay has the second-best offense in MLB and just scored 25 runs against Dodgers pitching. The Chicago Cubs just allowed 25 runs to what was a run-of-the-mill Reds offense. With no weather issues at Wrigley Field, the Rays scored one run in their first two games against very ordinary Chicago pitching, both as favorites.

Maybe, and even that is a reach to excuse Atlanta for playing a Sunday night game, having to travel to Oakland and losing Monday’s game 7-2, to end the Athletics’ 11-game losing streak. But losing the next night to the A’s 2-1, who started this week having allowed 7.1 RPG on the season? The A's were 0-20 as +200 underdogs. They are now 2-20. That’s baseball.

Trendy Talk

MLB

  • Houston is 33-10 vs. teams outscoring foes by 0.5 or more runs a game.
  • Seattle is 7-13 (-11.5 Units) as a favorite of -125 to -175 this season.
  • Arizona is 6-0 after a game where they stranded three or less runners on base.
  • Braxton Garrett of Miami is 14-4 under vs. an NL team with an on-base percentage of .325 or worse.
  • Carlos Carrasco is 14-4 over as a home underdog of +100 or higher.
  • Boston is 8-0 over in home games vs. a starting pitcher who strikes out five or more batters a start.

NBA

  • Miami is 0-10 ATS after allowing 105 points or less in two straight games this season.
  • Denver is 10-1 over vs. winning teams.

NHL

  • Florida is on an 11-1 postseason run.
  • Vegas is 12-3 over in home games revenging a same-season loss.

WNBA

Connecticut is 10-2 ATS in road games after a combined score of 155 points or more. (Thursday)

The Buzz

NBA – The Finals

Series Betting Odds (from Bovada)
  • Denver -430 over Miami +320

While this series might not have brand name recognition, if you are reading this, you bet on sports or love sports and you will watch.

If Miami could not contain Robert Williams in the paint, what will they do with Nikola Jokic?

The Heat are making 58% of their open three-point shots, that’s nuts. The Nuggets have scored 119.7 points per 100 possessions over their 15 playoff games. That’s the best through three rounds since Cleveland six years ago.

Miami won’t roll over, but Denver wins in 6.

NHL – Stanley Cup Finals

Series Betting Odds (from Bovada)
  • Vegas -125 over Florida +105

Panthers Keys

Since returning between the pipes, Sergei Bobrovsky is 11-1, with a .942 SV% and 1.95 GAA in the postseason. Most teams that falter see their stars and other players fail to produce.

Florida has done the opposite with 15 skaters with at least one goal through 16 games. Five are in double-digit point totals. Matthew Tkachuk has been better than Miami’s Jimmy Butler, if that’s possible. Coach Paul Maurice has been perfect in almost every situation.

Golden Knights Keys

Like Florida, Vegas has gotten goals from almost everyone lacing up the skates in the postseason (15 scorers, like Florida). Maybe that becomes a new standard for playoff hockey, unstoppable offensive pressure.

The Golden Knights have shown they have extra gear in individual games or like in Game 6 against Dallas, where they imposed their will. Goalie Adin Hill might not have Bobrovsky numbers, but he’s been every bit as valuable to his team at 7-3, a 2.30 GAG, and a .932 save percentage. Bruce Cassidy gets fired in Boston for not winning a big series; now his team is playing for the Cup.

One team will win Lord Stanley’s Cup for the first time. Vegas in 7.

NFL – Tampa Bay Bucs Quarterback Competition Looks, Special?

MLB – Conor McGregor Bringing the Heat (If Not the Control)

Top Betting System

MLB – Reds at Red Sox (+110 RL)

Play Against Underdogs against a 1.5-run line (Money Line =+165 to -135) like the Reds after three straight games where they committed no errors, after a game where the bullpen was rocked for six or more earned runs.

Teams like Cincy are 5-31 in this spot.

Out The Door

NFL: State of Minnesota Saves Taxpayers Money!

From Front Office Sports, the Minnesota Vikings have paid off their debt on U.S. Bank Stadium 23 years early — a move that will save Minnesota taxpayers, $226 million in interest.

State officials were able to retire the stadium's debt after tax revenue from legalized, electronic pull-tab games — a key funding source for the facility’s bonds — soared beyond initial projections.

NBA – Nobody Is Watching NBA Basketball Anymore?

If you go on social media, there are daily complaints “The NBA is just a three-point shooting contest”, “Nobody plays defense” or “I quit watching years ago.”

Then the facts pop up.

Carry on.
