I placed a patent including Stars over the sea raced at Killarney 20th July and had other 2 winners. Bet with William Hill online and Won £1400 which was paid into my William Hill account.
The officials in Killarney voided the race for a stupid reason and since then the decision has been appealed and re-instated. However, about 20 mins after they paid the £1400 into my account they took it back. The bet was settled as they had weighed-in.

They are saying they don't pay out on amended results after the official result which is my point, they paid me and the race status was weighed in. How can they take it back from me, recognise the void decision but not the amended result? If I had placed the bet in a shop I would have been paid and kept it! Is there someone out there that can confirm that they shouldn't have taken the winnings back out of my account? Any advice and help is welcomed.

I remember this fiasco. Unfortunately I don't think an official 'weighed in' was ever announced at the track before the stewards voided the race some 20 minutes after it had finished (the stewards could not have voided the race for betting purposes if the official 'weighed in' signal had been given). Obviously most bookmakers, including William Hill, had already settled all bets and paid out by the time the race was officially declared void, but they are entitled to take back any winnings already paid if the official result is a void race. They are also obliged to refund all stakes on the race. In addition to refunding all bets on the race, some bookmakers such as Paddy Power and the Betfair Sportsbook paid out on Stars Over The Sea, but they did this as a goodwill gesture and not because they had to. William Hill in their infinite wisdom decided not to make such a gesture (I can't say I'm surprised) and that is why they took back your winnings. You have my sympathy, Kevin, but I'm afraid that I don't think anything can be done about this other than you closing your WH account (if you do, you might like to send them an email telling them why) and taking your custom elsewhere. Sorry I can't be of more help.
