Two men have been charged with allegedly fixing a match in Victorian soccer's second tier, and betting on its outcome.

The charges stem from an 18-month investigation by Victoria Police's Sporting Integrity Intelligence Unit into a National Premier League division 2 match in Bundoora on August 19, 2017.

On that day, a match between Melbourne City Youth and Dandenong Thunder ended 2-2, with the Thunder giving up an early two-goal lead.

A 54-year-old Essendon North man has been charged with corrupting a betting outcome, while a 52-year-old Gold Coast man has been charged by Queensland Police with facilitating match-fixing conduct.

They are both due to face court on March 29.

I'm almost certain I know one of those two men. If it's in fact him I can't say I'm shocked at all. The surprising part for me is I didn't even realise they offer betting on those matches! May as well bet on under 9s footy too

One of your faves Sportsbet has all of those and even lower leagues.

I am kind of surprised the FFA in Australia did not require bookmakers to stop offering lower leagues after the Southern Stars fixing scandal.

It's fun to have a bet on lower level local teams if you are involved somehow, but it's just asking for trouble really for the governing body to OK it and take a skim of the profits.

If anything just offer futures on the league winner, not on individual matches. In such long seasons you can see how it'd appear to be so easy and tempting to fix a match or two as it'll rarely affect the overall ladder. They're just asking for trouble allowing bets on this and you have to feel for a punter who ends up losing money by placing an honest bet.
