'Bit specialised, but today I notice that the Betfair exchange betting on Osaka v Anisimova [women's tennis-Aus open] is bet 1.36 Osaka lay 1.38.I decide to jump into the hole and try to lay Osaka at 1.37 for £140.When I do that, bets for £320 to lay Osaka appear.Don't know whether the other £180 is ahead of me in the queue and the smartbots have got the jump on me. I suspect the only way to avoid that is to place the bet well away from the market originally by attempting to back Osaka at 1.3 - for example - and then update the bet to the one that I want.

Is this good or bad?

It may be bad.The bots shouldn't know when I'm typing out a bet and be able to get the jump on me as I place it. I don't know whether they're getting ahead of me in the queue but I suspect that they might be.I may not consistently remember to place my bet well ouside of the market, and then update it.

It couldn't be a bug. It has to be the way the bots have been programmed. They joined me instantaneously when I tried to lay Osaka at 1.37,so they must have decided to do that using some algorithm. That's no problem for me if they went behind me in the queue, but it is a problem if they somehow jumped ahead as then I'm less likely to get matched.

Make sense. As long as it won't be an issue with your betting strategy in the future.
