Top Golf Pick: Ludvig Åberg To Finish Top 10 (+275) BetOnline (visit our BetOnline Review)
This week, our golf expert @EdwardsTips previews this week’s US Open.
Thursday, June 12, 2025 – 06:45 AM EDT at Oakmont Country Club
It has been difficult to find odds of +2000 or higher on Ludvig Åberg during his rise from the world’s top amateur, but this week, we finally have the chance to back the talented Swede at more realistic prices for the US Open.
That is because 2025 has been rather stop-start for the young Swede, but there have been signs of his undoubted class. The first one was a win at Torrey Pines for the relocated Genesis Invitational, and bear in mind that the course is a regular host of the US Open. Åberg then competed prominently all week at the Masters Tournament for the second year in succession when a poor final couple of holes left him in 7th rather than close to the play-off.
The two previous winners of the US Open at Oakmont, Dustin Johnson and Angel Cabrera, share many similarities in their play:
That ability to hit the ball high and long will be an advantage this week, especially with the weather forecast looking perfect following a wet spell. The softer conditions will allow for shorter approach shots that help hold Oakmont’s super-fast greens, which can measure up to 14 on the Stimpmeter — where a high ball flight will once again be a significant asset.
Finally, the last pieces in the jigsaw were Åberg’s strong showing at last year’s US Open, finishing 14th and last week’s RBC Canadian Open, which looked like the perfect tune-up with a very promising effort just outside the top 10.
Harris English fits much of the criteria that we are looking for in our US Open perm, and like Åberg, he has a towering ball flight.
The thirty-five-year-old has many other strong credentials to bolster our confidence, the first of which is his US Open record. He has three Top 10 finishes in the last five years, which is hugely impressive and illustrates the patience within his game.
English has a great current form. His major championship pedigree was enhanced after a runner-up finish at the recent PGA Championship, on the back of a tournament win at Torrey Pines (like Åberg) for the Farmers Insurance Open.
Becoming a US Open champion can be an exacting test of skill and patience as the grind takes its toll on much of the field. For me, English fits the mould of unfashionable past winners like Retief Goosen, Jim Furyk, and Gary Woodland.
The price of +10000 with BetOnline, one of our recommended sportsbooks, is the best value around. Given the generic Top 10 price of +100, we can avail ourselves of that for a bigger stake.
