This upcoming weekend, the UFC will head to San Diego, California this time around for UFC Fight Night: Vera vs. Cruz. We have a lot of veterans coming up against younger, and tougher competition.
Can the veterans come out victorious? Or is it past their prime now?
There are two fights, in particular, this week that I have been analyzing to try to answer those questions above. If you would like to find out, read below for my UFC Best Bets:

UFC Women’s Catchweight Preliminary Bout
Saturday, August 13, 2022 – 06:40 PM EDT at Pechanga Arena
Angela "Overkill" Hill is an American mixed martial artist with a current professional record of 13 wins (5 T/KO, 8 Decisions) and 12 losses (2 Submissions, 10 Decisions).
Hill is a technical muay thai striker with a very durable chin. Despite her background, she will favor her striking more than grappling.
Lupita “Loopy” Godinez is a Mexican mixed martial artist with a current professional record of 8 wins (1 T/KO, 1 Submission, 6 Decisions) and 2 losses (2 Decisions).
Godinez is a wizard on the ground as her takedown game is lethal. Even then, she is a patient grappler. On the feet, she uses tricky techniques that are smooth and unpredictable.
I will side with the bookmakers for once and back Lupita Godinez. As much as I am a fan of Angela Hill, it’s hard for me to back her this weekend since she is 1-5 in her last 6 bouts.
It appears her striking is in less volume and power. I will say though, that her chin is granite because she has never been knocked out in her entire professional career. This points to this fight most likely ending at the scorecards.
Loopy will most likely be the aggressive fighter pressuring forward as she is hunting for takedowns. That is her major advantage, her takedown game is lethal and the current UFC odds seem to reflect that.
Both of these contenders do not have the best striking defense and tend to leave a lot of openings. Since Godinez will be the aggressor, she will be able to get into an opening to bring the fight to the ground and have it her way.
This will be a technical bout ending at the scorecards, so take Godinez to Win by Points.

UFC Middleweight Main Card Bout

Bruno “Blindado” Silva is a Brazilian mixed martial artist with a current professional record of 22 wins (19 T/KO, 3 Decisions) and 7 losses (5 Submissions, 1 Decision, 1 DQ).
Bruno Silva is an incredibly powerful striker no matter the position inside the octagon given his 19 out of 22 total wins by T/KO.
Gerald “GM3” Meerschaert is an American mixed martial artist with a current professional record of 34 wins (6 T/KO, 26 Submissions, 2 Decisions) and 15 losses (3 T/KO, 8 Submissions, 4 Decisions).
GM3 has a background in Brazilian jiu-jitsu and is primarily a submission fighter as he has made 26 of his opponents tap throughout his entire professional career.
I feel like I could definitely make an argument for each fighter. It’s a simple striker vs. grappler matchup, but I will give the advantage to the striker this time around.
If GM3 is capable of bringing the fight to the ground, Silva will not be uncomfortable. Silva is the more damaging fighter since he uses his fists like baseball clubs.
I see it now, GM3 will want to switch levels and Silva will fight a clean opening with a nasty slugger. Take the Brazilian to win it inside the distance.
