At Bookmakers Review, our in-form professional golf bettor Craig Edwards shares his top picks for the St. Jude Championship.
This week’s event takes the top 70 from the FedEx standings as they play down to the top 50 for next week’s penultimate tournament of the end of season series, the BMW Championship.
We’re analyzing the latest betting lines from top sportsbooks to identify the smartest value bets.
August 7 – August 10, 2025 at TPC Southwind
As regular readers of my BMR column will know, the last three occasions that Matt Fitzpatrick has teed it up on the PGA Tour, we have bet him in outright win and top 10.
In the first two of those events, the Scottish Open and the Open Championship, he figured prominently all week and returned nice profits from the top 10 markets.
With a week between the Open Championship and last week’s Wyndham Championship, the thirty-year-old from Sheffield, England, was a little slower out of the gates; however, he eventually finished in 8th place for further profits.
Therefore, we are still playing with house money on Matt Fitzpatrick, which is enough for us to row in once again this week at the St. Jude Championship, in Memphis.
This event has seen the 2022 US Open champion being a serious factor on numerous occasions in past renewals, resulting in 4th, 5th, and 6th place finishes to show his strong affinity with TPC Southwind.
Will it be fourth time lucky in Memphis and fourth time lucky for readers this week on Matt Fitzpatrick?
His chances are strong, so have a meaty stake on a top 10 finish.
And a smaller one on his outright win chances in the St. Jude Championship using the BMR best sportsbook, BetOnline (visit our BetOnline Review).
Yes, if Matt Fitzpatrick does not win, then the next best option is his fellow European, Sepp Straka.
Both players share much of their best form at correlating tracks, indeed, when the Austrian was runner up here in 2022, the Englishman was 5th.
The thirty-two-year-old from Vienna has been a revelation on the PGA Tour with four tournament victories, which could have been six, had he not lost two sudden death play-offs, one of which was here in 2022.
With his world ranking at #10 and a FedEx standing of 3rd, Straka’s stock has never been higher, and this week sees him on his favoured Bermuda greens.
His only poor performances all season, appear to have been the major championships which have been strangely underwhelming. On many of those occasions, he has been hugely popular with bettors having been in great form prior, and maybe the expectations of fans and himself got in the way.
That is not a problem this week, and there is no reason but to get involved betting Sepp Straka at the attractive number of (+4000) with the BMR recommended sportsbook, Bovada (visit our Bovada Review).
Sepp Straka to crack the Top 10 at +400 via BetOnline stands out as another strong value play.
