Our Top NFL Week 1 Parlay: Best Bets for Sunday’s Games (Archive)

Originally published on September 7, 2021

One week remains until Week 1 of the 2021 NFL season is here. Now is the time to start hammering the same game parlays if you haven’t already. There’s no better time to lock in the best values of the year.

After studying the lines and key trendJust s from across the NFL, I’ve found five games with parlays that are simply too attractive to not jump on. We’ll have you covered throughout the 2021 NFL season with weekly picks as we look to profit all year long.

Week 1 NFL Betting Picks

Below are my five favorite Week 1 NFL parlays along with a brief breakdown of why I’m leaning each direction.

Dallas Cowboys vs.Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Thursday, September 09, 2021 – 08:20 PM EDT at Raymond James Stadium

Tampa Bay brought back the best roster in the league and it’s not particularly close. The Bucs are healthy and present a massive problem with their offensive weapons against any defense. This is especially the case against a bad Dallas secondary.

Dallas has the firepower to keep up with Tampa Bay’s playmakers but not the defense. I think both quarterbacks will attempt over 35 passes based on their foes’ strengths but Dallas has less answers than Tampa has at their disposal. Dallas has failed to cover in 11 of their last 16 games, and their total has hit the over in five of seven. Meanwhile, Tampa has covered in five of their last six.

New York Jets vs. Carolina Panthers

Sunday, September 12, 2021 - 01:00 PM EDT at Bank of America Stadium

I may be low on Sam Darnold’s fit with Joe Brady and the Panthers, but the Jets will still be a bad team in 2020. Having a rookie quarterback with a mediocre offensive line and limited running game is a recipe for little success. And the Jets secondary may be the worst in the NFL until proven otherwise. Carolina has too many weapons and a fast defense capable of snuffing out wrinkles before they develop.

The Jets will find some success as the game goes on but not enough to cover. I like the Panthers to cover a modest home line and hit the over. New York has lost seven of their last eight road games, and have failed to cover eight of their last nine September games. Carolina has failed to cover in five of their last six home games but have hit the over in six of their last nine September contests.

Arizona Cardinals vs. Tennessee Titans

Sunday, September 12, 2021 - 01:00 PM EDT at Nissan Stadium

Tennessee is a safer play at home but we have to look at the overall picture. Cardinals’ head coach Kliff Kingsbury is 7-3-2 as a road underdog, and possesses a fast offense that’ll blitz a bad Titans defense. We should see these teams go back and forth all afternoon in what might be the highest-scoring game of the week. The Titans’ offense is set to be one of the best in the league after acquiring Julio Jones.

Arizona lacks any type of presence at corner capable of containing him, with rookie Marco Wilson arguably their best option. Arizona will have to create sacks and turnovers but will stay close. Arizona has covered in five of their last six games against the Titans. Tennessee has seen the over hit in seven of their last nine, and 11-of-15 home games.

Los Angeles Chargers vs. Washington Football Team

Sunday, September 12, 2021 - 01:00 PM EDT at FedEx Field

The best defensive battle all week is between two excellent minds in Washington. Brandon Staley boasted the top unit in the league with the Rams last year, and not far behind was Ron Rivera’s Football Team. Now with the Chargers, Staley has similar talent and expectations. The Chargers have more offense to rely upon, and this slim favorite margin is a good value for us in what’s essentially a pick’em line.

We’ll see if Ryan Fitzpatrick is Dr. Jekyll or Mr. Hyde, but I have a feeling this won’t be his best outing. The Chargers are opportunistic and athletic. L.A. has covered the spread in four of their last five games, and won four of five against Washington. Washington has hit the under in five of their last six, and have lost 12-of-16 home games.

Cleveland Browns vs. Kansas City Chiefs

Sunday, September 12, 2021 - 04:25 PM EDT at Arrowhead Stadium

I love what the Browns did this offseason but starting out with the Chiefs is a tough ask. Andy Reid is a phenomenal early-season coach, covering the spread 22 times out of 32 games in Weeks 1-4 with the Chiefs. He’s failed just twice in eight years with the franchise. Cleveland has a lot of new pieces to integrate. They’ll score and give the Chiefs fits, but a slow first-half is likely for the upstart Brownies.

Watch for the Chiefs to load the box and dare Baker Mayfield to feast against their highly talented secondary. Cleveland has covered four of their last five spreads against the Chiefs but have lost five of six against them. Kansas City was abysmal last year against the spread, going 1-9-1, but have hit the over in Week 1 in each of the last five years.
