Two of the NBA’s best centers will face off when Nikola Jokić and the Denver Nuggets head to Minnesota to take on Karl-Anthony Towns and the Timberwolves. Both men are great scorers, but which man will lead his team to be in the winning NBA pick.
Tuesday, February 01, 2022 – 08:00 PM EST at Target Center
The Nuggets are getting hot. They have won five in a row and are 8-2 in their last 10 games. The winning streak has pushed them to 28-21. They are now 5th in the Western Conference.
The Nuggets' most recent win was a 136–100 win in Milwaukee on Sunday over the defending champions. Denver is in the midst of a road trip and has won the first 4 games on the trip so far. They will be trying to make it 5 games in a row tonight against a tough Minnesota Timberwolves team.
Nikola Jokić is putting up MVP numbers again. He had 18 points, 15 assists, and 9 rebounds in the win over the Bucks on Sunday. It was a season-high for Jokić in assists. Aaron Gordon scored 24 points. Gordon was a prolific scorer in his time with the Magic, but his scoring has taken a backseat on the Nuggets. With the injuries the team has suffered, Gordon has stepped up his offensive aggressiveness. The results have shown and the Nuggets are pleased with Gordon having a bigger role in the offense.
The Nuggets were happy to have Will Barton back in the lineup. Barton has recently missed 2 games with an illness. Barton's return helps the Nuggets on both ends of the floor. He is a solid third option, but more importantly, he plays really good defense. Barton had 15 points in his return against the Bucks.
Nuggets guard Monté Morris is also an instrumental part of this team. While Morris doesn't put up big point totals quite often, his defense is quite instrumental for the way that the Nuggets want to play. When the Nuggets are at their best, Morris is leading the defense on the perimeter to prevent their defense from getting sliced apart. With Morris in the lineup, the Nuggets defense is good enough for them to win games.
The Minnesota Timberwolves are coming off of a 126–106 win over the Utah Jazz. Karl-Anthony Towns had a triple-double in the win with 31 points, 11 rebounds, and 10 assists. Jalen McDaniels was a big help for the team as well with his season-high 22 points.
The win moved Minnesota to 25-25 on the season. They are currently in 8th place but would like to make a push to avoid the play-in tournament. Minnesota is 14-10 at home this season. The Timberwolves are 5-5 in their last 10 games. The Wolves have a point differential of +1.0 so far this season.
The Timberwolves hope D'Angelo Russell will be able to return for the game tonight. Russell missed the win against Utah with a lower-leg injury. Russell's maturation has been huge this year for the Timberwolves' success. He was one of the worst defenders in the league, but he had raised his level and is now at least reasonably solid on defense.
Russell also is better on offense. He does a great job of getting his teammates involved. He shows that even if a young player comes into the NBA and struggles for multiple seasons, there is still hope that he can blossom into their potential.

Nikola Jokić vs. Karl-Anthony Towns. This one is easy to identify. Both centers are the heart and soul of their team. This will look like an 80’s NBA game with both teams running their offense through the post. Both players are not the strongest defensively either, so both players could also be in line for a big game.
Towns and Jokić have been playing extremely well lately. The performance of Karl-Anthony Towns and Nikola Jokić will probably be in direct correlation to who the victory is tonight.
With the way the Nuggets are playing it is hard to go against them right now. The Nuggets have a good chance to win straight up and they are getting 3 points of NBA odds. Jokić should get the better of Towns when the game is on the line.
The Nuggets will continue their winning road trip tonight. Today’s Play of the Day is the Denver Nuggets +3 at one of BMR's top-rated sportsbooks.
