Another night of hockey means another column of me telling you what you should put your money on!
A lot of weird matchups tonight across the National Hockey League as we are just over a week away from the All-Star break which will remind us that the restructuring of the league can be confusing and makes me miss the Wales and Patrick Division uniforms from my youth.
We will start with two teams 23 points apart in the Eastern Conference standings as the New York Rangers battle the Columbus Blue Jackets on the Blue Jackets’ home ice. Without further ado, let’s take a look into these matchups and how you should be wagering over at the top-rated sportsbooks.
New York Rangers vs. Columbus Blue Jackets

After getting done up and running up 6-0 against the Flames and having their goalie shot on 62 times, which per ESPN is the most shots on goal taken by a visiting team since the stat was first tracked in the 1955-56 season. So at minimum Columbus had the worst home-ice performance in 67 years. Like the California Golden Seals and the Cleveland Barons weren’t that bad and they don’t even exist anymore.
Rangers are riding a three-game winning streak and are currently three points behind Florida for the top spot in the east and fourth in the President’s Trophy standings, which as a Rangers fan does things to my mental health that I cannot explain to you in the word limit I have for this column. Let’s just say I’m feeling happy but also in sheer panic.
For tonight I’d suggest taking the Rangers straight up (-193) available at the NHL odds board or if you wanna add a little spice to your life, take the 'over' 6 (-104), cause the Blue Jackets have to be tired after last night, even though they slept in their own beds, they got housed by Calgary and trying to play a similar team, does not serve Columbus well by any stretch of the imagination

Vancouver Canucks vs. Winnipeg Jets

Our final game of the column features a situation where one of these two teams has to not lose. The Vancouver Canucks and the Winnipeg Jets are not doing so great lately, both on multiple game losing streaks (Winnipeg: 5 and Vancouver: 3) and are both tied at 41 points ahead of tonight’s showdown in British Columbia.
While on paper it should be Winnipeg breaking the streak due to their better Goals Per Game scored/allowed ratio, looking at the competition they faced this year and the fact they’ve won a majority of their recent road games against teams like Nashville and Washington. For your NHL picks, I’d suggest taking Vancouver straight up tonight at +153.
