Can the Brooklyn Nets pull off their third straight win against the New York Knicks on Wednesday? Or will the Knicks earn their second win in February after a brutal stretch of tough losses?
Let’s see what the NBA odds for this matchup tell us!
Wednesday, February 16, 2022 – 07:30 PM EST at Madison Square Garden
The Brooklyn Nets travel to Madison Square Garden to take on the New York Knicks on Wednesday night. A win would be huge for both clubs as they battle to try to claw their way into a play-in-tournament spot in an extremely competitive Eastern Conference.
The Knicks (25-33), currently two games back of the final play-in spot, are coming off a horrific 127-123 overtime loss to the Oklahoma City Thunder. New York blew an 11-point third-quarter lead to the Thunder who are the second-worst team in the Western Conference and were down arguably two of its best players in Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Luguentz Dort.
The Nets (30-27) on the other hand got its first win in nearly a month ending its 11-game losing streak in a convincing 109-85 victory over the visiting Sacramento Kings. Newly acquired Seth Curry and Andre Drummond from the recent blockbuster trade with the Philadelphia 76ers were a huge reason why.
Let's face it. Neither New York team has been good recently. Both teams are a combined 3-17 in the last 20 games. Just abysmal on both sides.
That being said, this is too many points regardless of who was going to be the underdog for the top-rated sportsbooks.
The new additions for the Nets should be able to keep that momentum going into MSG. In Monday's win over the Kings, Curry led the way for Brooklyn with a team-high 23 points and added 7 rebounds and 5 assists. Drummond also helped the cause as he finished with 11 points, 9 rebounds, and 4 assists in his Brooklyn debut.
While they may not win, expect the new-look Nets to keep it closer than this spread.
Even though it's not out yet, I believe this game will go under if the total is around the 215-220 range I project it to be.
The Knicks rank 27th in the NBA in points per game at home this season with 105. Outside of the overtime collapse against OKC last game, the under 215 total points has hit in 8 of the previous 10 games at MSG.
While the Nets are one of the higher scoring teams in the NBA, they're still without Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving. I expect Brooklyn to put up a similar or even a lower total than Monday night's game since the Knicks are one of the better defensive teams in the league and the Kings are second-worst in opponents' points per game (114.6).
The under is also 21-6 in the last 27 meetings in New York. Hammer the under when the odds become available.

As much as I want to take the big underdog, I think the Knicks bounce back in this spot and get the job done at home. They really need to make up some ground in the Eastern Conference just to have a chance in the play-in tournament.
Even though New York will still be without young phenom RJ Barrett due to an ankle injury, Julius Randle and the Knicks have no excuse to not get the job done against a short-handed Nets team with no Irving or Durant. So, for my NBA picks, give me the Knicks in this must-win spot.
