Top sportsbooks have released their MLB odds for today’s baseball action. Two games, in particular, interest me as worth investing in: Giants vs. Marlins and Padres vs. Brewers.
For reasons that I will explain, you should play the total for both games. Feel free to parlay both bets at a top sportsbook in order to maximize your profit.

San Francisco starts lefty Alex Wood who promises to bounce back after collecting the loss in two consecutive outings.
Two starts ago, he took the loss against San Diego after suffering some misfortune. In that start, he yielded a 15.00 ERA because he yielded an absurdly high .615 BABIP (batting average of balls in play). His 2.22 FIP in that start reflects how well he actually performed.
Most recently, he earned the loss in Cincinnati where, historically speaking, he tends to struggle.
Wood's two favorite pitches are his sinker and slider. Both pitches make up about 82% of his arsenal. He also throws a changeup a lot.
I like Wood to thrive tonight because he is historically solid in Miami's venue where he yields a 2.92 ERA in 49.1 career innings.
Miami starts Sandy Alcantara who is a model of consistency.
Alcantara has allowed 2 earned runs or fewer in 9 of his 10 starts this season. Moreover, he has conceded one earned run or fewer in each of his past 4 starts. Alcantara is so solid in terms of limiting opposing scoring despite the fact that he regularly goes deep into games.
He has thrown 25 out of 27 possible innings in his last 3 starts.
Alcantara is consistent, thriving against opponents that match up even better against his pitches than the Giants do. He throws:
His four-pitch mixture is dangerous because of how balanced it makes his arsenal. He throws all four pitches with over 20% frequency and he doesn't throw a single pitch with as much as 28% frequency.
This level of variety makes him less predictable for opposing batters because they have more trouble discerning which pitch will approach them.

San Diego starts Sean Manaea today.
Manaea is most well-known for his sinker, which he throws 60.5% of the time. He locates this pitch well, distributing it evenly among different parts of the strike zone. His pitch selection is intelligent because it is logical for a pitcher to throw his best stuff most often.
Manaea's sinker is clearly effective: opponents are batting .198 and slugging .372 against it.
Regardless of what pitches Manaea throws, the Brewers' lineup is already in bad shape for tonight's game because Manaea is a lefty. With big-name batters like lefty Christian Yelich, the Brewers are more built to deal with right-handed pitching.
Plus, the Brewers still miss Hunter Renfroe who is not eligible for activation from the injured list until tomorrow. Renfroe's presence would have been valuable tonight because he is slugging .750 against left-handed pitchers.
Manaea's other two favorite pitches are his slider and changeup. Together, his sinker, slider, and changeup make up nearly 99% of the arsenal. The biggest reason why I like Manaea tonight is that the Brewers rank 28th in slugging .289 against these three pitches from lefties.
Milwaukee starts Adrian Houser who is slightly more balanced than Manaea in terms of pitch selection.
Houser, like Manaea, primarily relies on a sinker, although Houser doesn't throw this pitch quite as often.
His two favorite pitches are his fastball and sinker.
He matches up well against the Padres because they rank 27th in slugging against these two pitches from righties.
Moreover, Manny Machado is a huge part of the Padres' offense, but he is 0-for-8 lifetime against Houser.
