February 20 – 23, 2025
This is only the fourth year of the Mexico Open played at Vidanta but already we have a strong read on the course, and the sort of players we are looking for.
This week’s forecast for Vallarta is absolutely perfect with sunshine and a gentle breeze, therefore expect low scoring and a winning total of 20-under par or just below.
I must confess, that I have been following Swede Vincent Norrman closely in recent weeks and he has also featured in this column. This week’s test in Mexico suits the twenty-seven-year-old much more on several levels than those recent tournaments.
Firstly, the Mexico Open looks like the weakest PGA Tour event of 2025 so far with many of the top players resting after a slew of Signature events.
There has been much promise in Norrman’s play so far in 2025 with three top 40 finishes in stronger tournaments, which suggests he is re-finding the form of his rookie season in 2023 when he won the Barbasol Championship.
That season also saw Norrman illustrate how much Latin America golf suits his style and he was 18th here on debut along with strong efforts in the correlating events in Puerto Rico and the Corales Puntacana Championship.
At the price of (+8000) with BMR's best sportsbook, Bovada there is a compelling case for supporting Vincent Norrman this week.

As long-term followers and readers of my column will know, last year’s Mexico Open was a profitable one with Jake Knapp landing the title at (+3300).
This year the thirty-year-old Californian arrives in Mexico in solid form at the price of (+4000) at BetOnline and there are good reasons why that similar price is valued once again.
Interestingly, last week Knapp got the bonus of an extra start in the big league when Tiger Woods withdrew from the Genesis Invitational, which had been re-arranged to Torrey Pines after the fires of Los Angeles. And, Jake didn’t Knapp on the opportunity by contending prominently all week at a test that suited him well, eventually finishing 17th.
In fact, a huge reason why we followed Knapp here last year was his performance at Torrey Pines the week previous where he illustrated his game was in great nick with a top 5 finish and given last week’s event was a Signature one, and deeper with high functioning top players competing, you could argue that last week’s result has identical value to 2024.
The final piece in the jigsaw of the Jake Knapp puzzle is that much of his best form on the Korn Ferry Tour was down in South America and a confident familiarity with the change of agronomy is a huge plus.
We are attempting to emulate last year’s heroics from Jake Knapp by backing him in the same markets at BetOnline.
