The Maryland Terrapins survived their last game against Hofstra. Will they be able to keep it close against Richmond in the Bahamas? Let’s analyze the NCAAB odds for this game.

Maryland Terrapins vs. Richmond Spiders

Thursday, November 25, 2021 – 07:00 PM EST at Baha Mar Convention Center

The Maryland Terrapins are 4-1 on the year but it feels like they shouldn’t be. In the last two games for the Terrapins, they took a loss to George Mason, 71-66, and defeated Hofstra by just two points, 69-67.

George Mason and Hofstra are above average or mid-tier opponents, but Maryland is supposed to be a powerhouse. So far, due to all of the new additions on this team, Maryland has struggled a bit.

Now Maryland will take on a much harder opponent in the Richmond Spiders, who despite being 3-2, are extremely dangerous. Richmond also knocked of Hofstra in their last game but have losses to two of the top mid-major teams in the nation between Drake and Utah State.

Richmond is currently the better offense between the two. The Spiders are shooting an effective field goal percentage of 57.8 percent with a turnover percentage of just 14.8 percent. With Maryland not being aggressive on the defensive end, there’s a good chance Richmond continues to limit the turnovers.

Tyler Burton has been the go-to scorer for Richmond as he’s averaging 19.8 points per game and 7.4 rebounds per game while shooting 58.6 percent from long range and 54.1 percent from the field. The four top scorers on Richmond are all shooting over 34 percent from long range to start the year.

The Spiders are shooting 40.9 percent from downtown and 54.7 percent from inside the arc. However, while the Spiders don’t get to the line at a high rate, they’re also really poor from the line, shooting just over 60 percent on the year. Again, that shouldn’t affect the game much because of the fact that Maryland doesn’t foul a whole lot and Richmond doesn’t get to the line very much.

On the other hand, Maryland is shooting an effective field goal percentage of just 46.9 percent while shooting just 25.4 percent from long range. Maryland has capable shooters but shots haven’t been falling early.

For example, Maryland’s leading scorer is Eric Ayala, who is scoring 15.4 points per game on just 34.2 percent from the field. One of the only returning players is shooting a brutal percentage and has become the leader of the team.

Meanwhile, Richmond is allowing a 53 percent effective field goal percentage along with 38.5 percent from downtown. If there was ever a game to get hot from three-point land, it’s this one for Maryland.

The Terrapins are still scoring 52.1 percent inside the arc and have limited turnovers on their end as well. Maryland has a knack for getting to the line more, however, just like the Terrapins, Richmond doesn’t foul all that much either.

Prediction

Right now, Maryland doesn’t look right. The Terrapins have plenty of talent it’s just going to take a little bit of time to get accustomed to playing with one another apparently.

For my college football pick, I’ll roll with Richmond here as a near pick-em at one of BMR’s best sportsbooks.
