How to Bet Bellator 279: Cyborg vs. Blencowe 2 (Archive)

Originally published on April 19, 2022

Whenever you see Cris Cyborg on the card, since she’s joined Bellator, all you really can do is set a clock and wonder how long it’ll take until she stops whoever is in front of her.

As stated in my Bellator 278 column, the women’s division in Bellator continues to have a huge gap between the elite and the contenders in each division, which is how we get to Arlene Blencowe being a +500 underdog this Saturday night according to the latest betting odds for Bellator 279.

Raufeon Stots vs. Juan Archuleta

Bellator Men’s Interim Bantamweight Championship Co-Main Event Bout

Bellator 279 Overview

That and also because we’ve seen this story before. Back in 2020, Blencowe was the first challenger for Cyborg’s featherweight crown in only her second fight with the promotion, giving Blencowe the fifth submission loss of her career.

Blencowe also fell to former champion/the woman Cyborg beat for the title, Julia Budd via split decision in 2017, which would give me hope for a Blencowe win over Budd… but Cris Cyborg ain’t Julia Budd.

Since coming to Bellator, Cyborg has fought in 12 rounds across four fights, going into the fifth round in a walk-off TKO of Leslie Smith, who also fell to Blencowe via unanimous decision back in 2017.

Another mutual opponent both fighters have is Sinead Kavanagh, a fighter that Cyborg dusted in less than a round in her last trip inside the Bellator Cage, while it took Blencowe all three rounds to eke out a split decision win in the latter’s return to featherweight.

Betting Preview

But this is not where you’ll be getting my suggestion from… because I’m not telling you to bet on a -900 favorite… I feel like everyone knows to not put any coin on that unless you have enough to make it worth your while.

For that, we go to the Bantamweight division (read in the Mike Goldberg voice), as Juan Archuleta looks to rebuild his record against Raufeon Stots.

While we have not seen Archuleta since his loss to now bantamweight champion Sergio Pettis in 2021, we last saw Stots in August of 2021 when he defeated Magomed Magomedov by decision.

A unanimous decision is very common for Stots, who has won six of his last seven fights on the scorecards. Meanwhile, Archuleta has also seen the scorecards in six of his last seven, going 4-2 with losses to the aforementioned Pettis and Patricio Pitbull in the opening round of the Bellator Featherweight Grand Prix.

The Bellator 279 Pick

The loss is humbling for Archuleta, who is a +170 underdog according to BetOnline (visit our BetOnline Review), while Stotts is a -210 favorite.

Hard to argue against Stotts here, but with Archuleta’s resume and ability to grind over three rounds, I’m suggesting that you pick up Archuleta here for the win for your Bellator picks. He'll more than likely take it home via a unanimous decision.
