Who wants to bet on this Rasslin Pay-Per-View?

Sorry…

Who would like to place a wager on the upcoming Sports Entertainment Premium Live Event that airs on Peacock?

Now that we’ve got that joke that every wrestling personality writes because branding is stupid, despite… You know this is about you guys and not my opinions on media criticism.

WrestleMania Backlash is this Sunday night, because Mother’s Day screams a pass-through event on the road to Money In the Bank (we think)?

WWE WrestleMania Backlash

Sunday, May 08, 2022 – 08:00 PM EDT at Dunkin’ Donuts Center

Let’s start off with something that could be one of your best bets if you’re looking at an upset on Sunday night on Peacock… Bobby Lashley vs. Omos

While Lashley is likely to do the job against the 7’7 monster currently managed by MVP, let’s remember this is a passthrough event and that squashing Lashley at this stage of the feud is not the ideal scenario if you’re looking to keep Lashley hot for the next few months.

I know what you’re thinking “Matt, WWE doesn’t do long-term booking,” while fair, with the exception of the awful disillusionment of the Hurt Business, Bobby Lashley has been one of the best-booked performers of the last two years in the WWE and has quickly become someone who is very valuable as a babyface to help carry water while RAW rebuilds after Mania.

My suggestion is to take Lashley on a flier at +200 betting odds as we can see the finish of this being Omos losing by DQ because MVP gets involved.

The Rest of the Card

The top two matches have pretty much the favorites in the matches (Drew McIntyre and RK-Bro -250 and Ronda Rousey at -700) in spots to where you’re not getting valuable returns if you do in-fact place your bets on them, but there is good value on Happy Corbin (+135) and Seth Rollins (+200) on BetOnline for their matches against Madcap Moss and Cody Rhodes respectively.

While Rollins taking the L is probable and Madcap Moss is someone who has been on the minds of WWE brass for a minute now, we have to look at these two matches the same way you’d look at the Lashley/Omos match.

This is the match to take you from this show to the blow off and not exactly the blow off. So, you can assume that one, the other, or both will get the win via nefarious means or possibly Rollins getting up on Cody and pushing the trilogy match at or around the Money in the Bank Ladder Match (facilitating a Cody/Roman match at SummerSlam or somewhere else down the line).

When it comes to these matches, as in any wrestling angle, if you can see a next step in the angle, your best bet is to go with the heel, as the heat advancement is the needed piece to get to a blow off. If the babyface has no redemptive arc or a raison d’etre to keep the angle going, it ends up being meaningless… which at that point all bets are off.
