WWE Royal Rumble 2022 Betting Odds, Preview and Picks (Archive)

Originally published on January 25, 2022

It is time for my favorite match of the year… THE ROYAL RUUUUUUUUUMBLE!

Growing up a wrestling fan, the Royal Rumble was always an amazing show where we’d see insane returns, debuts, chaos, and it acted as the thesis statement for what WWE planned for the upcoming year and the road to WrestleMania.

And I can say, as a fan of pro wrestling for over 30 years, a booker/producer/announcer and performer for almost a decade and as an “expert,” I have no earthly idea what the hell they have planned for this year’s WrestleMania.

Before we get to the betting odds for the two Rumble matches set for this Saturday night in St. Louis, let’s look at the other matches on the card.

First, for the WWE Championship we have Brock Lesnar and Bobby Lashley. With rumors of title unification on the menu potentially being on the menu for WrestleMania, which will once again be a two-night affair from Jerry World in Dallas, I’m hard pressed to think that either Lashley or Roman Reigns’ Universal Title opponent, Seth Rollins will get the win at the Rumble.

If you wanna bet Brock (-230) and Roman (-240), you’d be smart for that as I don’t think they hotshot the title off of Brock just a month after putting it on him and I’m unsure if Rollins and not Lesnar is the one to dethrone the Head Of The Table.

Will Edge and Beth Prevail?

One match to stay away from is the Doudrop (+750) and Becky Lynch (-1200) showdown for the Raw Women’s Title. They’ve done a solid job building Doudrop (FKA Piper Niven/Viper) as a serious challenger for Lynch’s title, but with those odds via BetOnline (visit our BetOnline Review)… I am not getting involved with any of that. If you wanna take a $20 teaser bet on Doudrop, I’d not be mad at you because the potential payoff on that is a tasty one, but aside from that, I would not put any big money on this match.

Next up is a battle of two wrestling couples as The Miz and Maryse take on Edge and Beth Phoenix. Bet Online has Edge and Phoenix as -500 favorites and The Miz and Maryse as +300 underdogs, which makes a world of sense to me, with this potentially being the blowoff for this match. If you’re looking for a parlay piece I’d take Edge and Beth here as they let Edge and Phoenix have their day in the sun on the Pay Per View that set up the latter’s comeback just two years ago.

Rumble Matches

For the Women’s Rumble, you have to pair down the match into levels, and in terms of the talent most likely to main event a Women’s title match that already isn’t a champion (I don’t think Charlotte is going to win), you come down to Bianca Belair (+300) and Alexa Bliss (+600). You also have the WTF factor which could be the veteran Lita (+2500), a rumored Ronda Rousey return (+500) or even Bayley, who tore her ACL in July and has been rumored to return ahead of a nine-month diagnosis (+700).

The easy money is Bianca going back to back as she is an undeniable star, but any of those five would make a tremendous Rumble winner.

The Men’s Rumble is a chaotic nightmare that has one clear potential winner in Big E (+300), mainly because he is the only non-title match competitor with a logical reason to get back into the title hunt with a field that has not been as strong as it was in prior Rumbles. This could change with an epic surprise or someone going on a Backlund/Flair type run to make history, but not sure we’re gonna have that on Saturday night.
