Top Braves vs. Astros World Series Game 6 Prop Picks (Archive)

Originally published on November 2, 2021

The 2021 World Series returns to Houston for Game 6 on Tuesday as the Atlanta Braves try again for their first championship since 1995 – they blew a 4-0 first-inning home lead in Game 5 and lost – while the Astros try to force a winner-take-all Game 7 on Wednesday.

So let’s go ahead and break down some MLB odds for tonight.

Atlanta Braves vs. Houston Astros, Game 6

Tuesday, November 2, 2021 – 08:09 p.m. EDT – at Minute Maid Park

Just in case the season does end tonight, BetOnline (visit our BetOnlinew Review) already has odds up to win the 2022 World Series and the Los Angeles Dodgers are +500 favorites followed by the Astros (+650), New York Yankees (+1200), Braves, and Chicago White Sox (+1200). You know, if there is a 2022 World Series because next season is far from guaranteed to be played with labor strife on the horizon.

On the updated World Series MVP odds, Braves outfielder/DH Jorge Soler is the +500 favorite followed by teammates Austin Riley and Freddie Freeman (+600 each).

Here are a few prop picks from BetOnline and Bovada (visit our Bovada Review).

Scoring Props

There has been at least one run scored in the first inning of four of five games in this series, including the Braves scoring four in the bottom of the first in Game 5 on an Adam Duvall grand slam. By rallying to win that game, Houston became the fourth team in World Series history to win an elimination game after trailing by four-or-more runs.

Neither starting pitcher Tuesday – Max Fried for Atlanta and Luis Garcia for Houston – has been all that sharp at times in these playoffs. Garcia is also on short rest.

MLB Pick: Yes, Score in the First Inning (-115) at BetOnline

MLB Pick: Braves Score First (-156) at BetOnline

Over/Under Total Hits

There will be no weather issues in Houston because Minute Maid Park has a retractable roof. In Games 3 and 4 in Atlanta, the Astros were not able to take batting practice due to poor weather. After taking BP on Sunday, the Astros scored the most runs of either team in the series with nine. The teams totaled 20 hits.

Also, remember that the designated hitter is back in play so that’s an added strong bat for both sides. Finally, the pitchers on both teams will be familiar with the batters at this point.

MLB Pick: Over 17.5 hits (+127) at Bovada

Head to Head Matchups

Altuve is 5-for-23 in the series with two homers and a double. His next run scored would be No. 22 of these playoffs, which would set an MLB single-season postseason record. Now, that run wouldn’t count as total bases unless it’s on a homer. Freeman is 5-for-18 with a homer in the series. He hit a go-ahead solo homer in Game 5, his fourth dinger of these playoffs and eighth of his postseason career. It was Freeman’s sixth go-ahead playoff homer, setting a franchise record.

Houston’s Kyle Tucker is batting .333 with two doubles in the series. He now has eight extra-base hits, five stolen bases and 15 RBIs this postseason. Riley leads the Braves with a .381 series average and has three doubles. Guys generally hit better in their home park.

MLB Pick: Jose Altuve Over Freddie Freeman (-135) at BetOnline

MLB Pick: Kyle Tucker Over Austin Riley (-135) at BetOnline

Strikeout Props

The 27-year-old Fried was one of the best pitchers in MLB in the second half of the season but was roughed up for five runs over 4.2 innings with just three strikeouts in his final NLCS start and also was hit around to the tune of six runs over five innings with six strikeouts in Game 2 of the World Series.

The lefty will be on regular rest. Despite losing Game 2, Fried got 14 swinging strikes on the Astros, the most against Fried this postseason.

Houston’s Luis Garcia was not good in his first two playoff starts but has been his past two. Even though he lasted only 3.2 innings in Game 3 of this series, Garcia had six strikeouts. He is on short rest, so Garcia’s leash could be short and that bodes well for our MLB pick here. He was much better at home in the regular season.

MLB Pick: Max Fried Over 4.5 Strikeouts (+127) at BetOnline

MLB Pick: Luis Garcia Under 4.5 (-167) at BetOnline
