Teams on Upset Alert in NFL Week 12 (Archive)

Originally published on November 23, 2021

The Tennessee Titans are 8-3 on the year with some really good wins and some really bad losses along the way. If the Titans play to the level of their competition, how will they play against a 7-4 New England Patriots team? Let’s see the NFL odds.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers vs. Indianapolis Colts

Sunday, November 28, 2021 – 1:00 PM EST at Lucas Oil Stadium

It’s been a wild season for the Indianapolis Colts. The Colts have now won four of their last five games with the lone loss coming in overtime against the Tennessee Titans. A month and a half ago, it looked like the Colts were headed straight to the bottom of the AFC, but with a couple of players returning, the Colts have really turned things around this season.

This week, it won’t be easy going up against the former champions, but the Colts have the offense to win this game. Indianapolis just defeated the Buffalo bills, 41-15 in a huge statement game. Meanwhile, the Buccaneers just beat up the New York Giants on Monday Night Football to break a two-game losing streak against some poor competition.

The Buccaneers have been terrible against the run this season on the defensive end, despite allowing just 78.4 yards per game on the ground. What happens is, the Buccaneers are usually up on opponents quickly and other teams get away from the run. The Buccaneers are beatable on the ground and I believe the Colts will be that team to prove it to the league.

Running back Jonathan Taylor has been an absolute monster for the Colts, scoring in eight straight games. He also just scored five times last week against the Colts. This won’t be an easy game for the Buccaneers on the road. For my best bets, I’ll take the home dog with that plus money.

Tennessee Titans vs. New England Patriots

Sunday, November 28, 2021 – 1:00 PM EST Gillette Stadium

The Tennessee Titans looked absolutely dreadful against the Houston Texans last week, losing 22-13 in embarrassing fashion. The Titans are now 8-3 on the season with losses to the Texans and the Jets this season. It’s weird stuff but the reality is that the Titans are a Super Bowl Contender.

They seem to play to the level of their opponent and now they’ll get a really good one with the Patriots on Sunday. The Patriots are starting to reel off wins. Right when critics destroy Bill Belichick and his coaching due to Tom Brady leaving, he starts to prove how great of a coach he actually is. The Patriots are now 7-4 and have a clear shot at winning the AFC East with the way Josh Allen and the Buffalo Bills are playing.

However, in this game, in particular, both teams match up pretty evenly. Both teams have very solid secondaries and both teams have been pretty poor in the run game on the defensive end. Of course, the Patriots currently have the better run game with Derrick Henry missing from the Titans, but overall, both offenses have solid receivers and poor offensive lines in the passing game.

Those offensive lines, for both teams, have played very well in the running game. So to me, for my NFL picks, I look at this game as a clear toss-up. Both teams have the same strengths and same weaknesses. Yet, the Titans are +205!
