Josh Winckowski (2-1, 2.80 ERA, 1.39 WHIP) has turned in two fine performances since being elevated to the starting rotation. His latest effort resulted in a 4-1 victory over the Padres last Sunday. Winckowski held San Diego scoreless over five innings. He allowed just four hits against the No. 7 offense in the big leagues.
Yankees Pitching Profile
The Yankees ace, Gerrit Cole (1-1, 6.23, 1.46), is back on the bump after being sidelined with an elbow injury to start the season. The 6x All-Star has made three starts this year, two of which were solid with a disastrous outing against the Mets sandwiched in between.
Therefore, his bloated ERA and WHIP numbers should not mislead you. He rebounded with a stellar effort against the Blue Jays last Sunday, going five full innings, and allowing one run on three hits in an 8-1 Yankees win.
The Pick
In this one, we have two starters coming off stellar performances. Although the Yankees own the most potent scoring lineup in the game, I believe Winckowski will be up to the task. He will keep the Bombers at bay for the first five innings.
Gerrit Cole is arguably the best pitcher in baseball when he’s on. He should be able to limit the Red Sox and their 13th-ranked run-producing offense. This game will go low as long as the bullpens don’t implode.
