Rams vs. Bengals Super Bowl LVI Key Players (Archive)

Originally published on February 2, 2022

The end of an amazing NFL season is almost here, and we have two new teams fighting for eternal glory. The Rams made it to the Super Bowl a few short years ago, but a loss to the Patriots dampened their hopes for the future.

Thanks to key trades and the development of talent, the Rams are back. They’ll play the Cincinnati Bengals, who were the worst team in the NFL two seasons ago.

While most of the season is led by teams, the Super Bowl is really led by players. In the biggest moment imaginable, who will step up and carry their team to victory?

Will it be a quarterback making a mind-boggling touchdown pass? Will a defensive back find a way to force a key turnover that shifts momentum? Will a kicker become a legend by kicking a game-winning field goal?

Let’s go ahead and take a look at some of the available NFL odds for the Super Bowl MVP.

Los Angeles Rams vs. Cincinnati Bengals

So many things could happen, but we have a solid idea of who will lead the charge for each team. These are the key players for each team in Super Bowl LVI.

Joe Burrow (+230 to Win MVP)

I love the value of this MVP pick because it’s significantly better than the Bengals’ moneyline. If Cincinnati beats the Rams, I don’t see Burrow losing MVP. He’s carried this team all season, and he’s made plays that few quarterbacks can.

The Rams will get pressure in this game. The Bengals simply don’t have the offensive interior to hang with Aaron Donald. With that in mind, it is crucial for Burrow to evade the pressure and make plays downfield. If he can’t create out of the pocket, the Bengals will crumble.

Burrow is built for the big moments. He did it in college, and he’s done it so far this postseason. This is the biggest game of his life, and there is no pressure on him. He should be elite once again.

Odell Beckham Jr. (+2500 to Win MVP)

Obviously, Cooper Kupp is a big player in this game. Still, he should get his yards. The real question is if a secondary receiver can have an impact alongside him. Kupp is elite, but he can’t do it all on his own.

That’s where OBJ comes into the equation. He’s been a difference-maker since signing with the Rams, and he will have an impact in this game. He can take the top off of the defense, and that is incredibly valuable in a game like this. On any route, he can take it to the house.

OBJ has been waiting for his opportunity, and he finally has it. We’ll see if he can carry the Rams to victory in his first Super Bowl.

Aaron Donald (+1700 to Win MVP)

Aaron Donald is the best defensive lineman in the NFL, and he’s playing in his second Super Bowl. He’s motivated to finally win one with the Rams after failing to beat the Patriots a few years ago.

Donald is elite against any team, but he should have a field day against the Bengals. They don’t have the talent to stop someone as good as him, and committing extra bodies won’t be enough.

If the Bengals are looking to take deep passes, they’ll need to slow Donald down. He can singlehandedly take that away with his ability to destroy the pocket. However, Donald also has to finish plays. Burrow is willing to take hits if he still gets the pass off, so you have to get your hands on him early.

Evan McPherson (+10000 to Win MVP)

Let’s give some credit to special teams. We’ve seen kickers make a difference all postseason, and the rookie Evan McPherson has been one of the best. He has proven that he can make clutch kicks in key moments, but none will be as big as this one.

If this is a low-scoring affair, every point will matter. Having someone as reliable as McPherson is valuable.

I don’t think there is value in an MVP bet with your NFL picks, but he’s still a key player for this Super Bowl.
