Panthers vs. Rangers NHL Odds, Preview, and Prediction (Archive)

Originally published on February 1, 2022

Florida comes into the Big Apple following an impressive 8-4 win over Columbus last night, whilst the Rangers are looking to win back-to-back home games following their 3-2 win over the Seattle Kraken last time out. Let’s analyze this matchup and keep cashing out!

Florida Panthers vs. New York Rangers

Tuesday, February 1, 2022 – 7:00 PM EST at Madison Square Garden

Florida Panthers

We had the Panthers beat Columbus by 2 or more goals last night and they covered easily as they put up a whopping 8 goals on the road. Mason Marchment put up a massive 6 total points in the game for the Panthers with two goals and four assists and an honorable mention must also go to Anton Lundell who assisted five goals.

The Panthers may be a force to reckon with offensively but their defense has been allowing 2.82 goals per game, which is in line with the league averages. The question remains can they shore up their defense in time for the playoffs or will they be confident enough that they can outscore any team they face?

New York Rangers

Although the Rangers come into this game having won their last home game, they played very poorly and were outshot by the Seattle Kraken by 18 total shots but somehow still managed to come away with the win. They also lost their previous home game to the Wild after holding a 2-0 lead, they let it slip and eventually lost 3-2.

The recent drop in performance could be the absence of defenceman Adam Fox, who has been the Rangers' best defender this season and one of the league’s best defenders. Chris Kreider has scored 31 goals for the Rangers this season, which sees him tied for top goalscorer along with Edmonton Oilers Leon Draisaitl and Artemi Panarin have managed to hit 49 points in just 41 games.

Betting Odds and Current Lines

Moneyline: The traveling Florida Panthers are set at -145 on the moneyline, whilst the home team is priced at NHL odds at +125.

Total: Tonight’s total originally opened up at 6.0 but has since moved up to 6.5 with the over odds coming in at -105 and the under -115.

Puck Line: N.Y. Rangers on the +1.5 PK line are currently as low as -210, if you believe the Panthers can cover the -1.5 spread for the 5th time in 10 road games they are as high as +180.

Betting Predictions

This will be the 4th game for the Panthers in 6 days, and we don’t care how good a team is, no team in any league should be a -145 favorite on the road having played that many games in such a short period of time.

The situation looks good for the Rangers to come up with a plus money win on home ice. The Panthers are 1-5 in this situation in previous times and 1-3 on back-to-backs this season.

We also have to respect the fact that the Rangers are a strong home team, they have the 6th best home record in the Eastern Conference but have also played the least amount of home games in the entire conference, so there’s room for them to move into the top three or four in the coming weeks if they notch up a few more wins.

Give us the Rangers at home with their world-class goaltender in the form of Igor Shesterkin, the 25-year-old Russian who has allowed three or fewer goals in his previous seven NHL starts. He holds an overall record this season of 21-5-2 with a .937 save percentage.
