South American soccer heats up this weekend, as the focus is swayed from the World Cup qualifiers to the beginning of this years Copa America tournament. And whilst they boast a 100% winning record during their WCQ outings, Brazil will be confident when switching their attentions to Copa America, which they last won in 2019.
Joining the tournament on the back of seven consecutive wins, there’s no denying the current form of Brazil. They are also undefeated in their previous six Copa America fixtures, claiming five victories and winning four of their previous five meetings versus the Venezuelans.
Brazil manager Tite is riding high on his squads World Cup qualifying efforts, taking the heads of Paraguay and Ecuador during their most recent encounters – a meeting with Ecuador next week could see similar results.
Venezuela, on paper, should not pose much threat to the in-form Brazil. However, we must remember that La Vinotinto handed the Brazilian’s sole score-draw of their 2019 winning Copa America campaign two years ago. More to the point, it was on the Brazilian’s turf.
A difficult task lies in wait for Venezuela, as the first group match of the tournament is against the expected winners of this year’s trophy. In addition, their WCQ campaign has provided some ugly results – one win from the opening six games indicates this South American team may struggle.
Without disrespect intended, Venezuela is not much of a challenge for Tite’s men. Of course, shock results can occur from time to time, but the apparent lack of quality inside the Venezuelan squad could become light work for South America’s most successful team.
Brazil’s ultra-impressive record in important competitions should be feared, and it doesn’t take a genius to make a prediction on them to win this encounter. However, we don’t expect Brazil to run their legs tired with much tougher fixtures in front of them. And given the string of 2-0 victories we’ve seen them produce, finding value in the under 2.5 goals market will offer more value than wagering on the Brazil moneyline.
