The Egg Bowl will feature two sensational offenses on Thanksgiving Thursday. Does Ole Miss or Mississippi State have the edge in this potential offensive matchup? Let’s see the NCAAF odds.

The NFL Thanksgiving slate is pretty boring. But don’t worry, the college football game between Mississippi and Mississippi State will be everything but boring. The Egg Bowl is one of the most exciting sports games in America. It’s not the Super Bowl or any kind of championship. But it’s a rivalry. A huge rivalry in sports between two of the best offensive minds in college football.
Ole Miss is scoring 36.4 points per game on 517.5 yards per game. Quarterback Matt Corral has thrown for 19 touchdowns and just three interceptions all year while also running for plenty more. He’s already heading into the NFL draft next year but that won’t stop him from playing in this game.
Depending on the outcome of this game, however, this could be Corral’s final game in an Ole Miss uniform, as he might sit out the bowl game if they don’t get a New Year’s 6 Bowl. Anyway, the offense has been ridiculous and the defense has also stepped up this season.
The rushing defense has struggled a bit and while tackling has been a slight problem, the pass rush and coverage have been way above average. They’ve allowed just 237.6 yards per game in the air. Against Mississippi State, Ole Miss won’t need to worry about their rushing defense nearly as much as the Bulldogs love to throw the football more than anything. On the other hand, Mississippi State is scoring 31.8 points per game along with 452.3 yards of offense per game.
The Bulldogs are averaging nearly 400 yards of offense per game in the air and have held opponents to just 326.1 yards per game on the defensive end. There’s no debate when it comes to defense. The Bulldogs are the beer group and have been very consistent in the run game, allowing just 96.4 yards per game.
The coverage is also doing its part. However, if Mississippi State doesn’t rush the ball much in this game, the Ole Miss defense compares better with Mississippi State. It would be more of an even playing field with Ole Miss having the better offense due to their running game.
If the NFL games don’t get you excited, tune in to some college football action at night. These are two teams that have had some legendary games throughout the years in the Egg Bowl and it’s only going to get more interesting with Lane Kiffin and Mike Leach as head coaches.
These two coaches are legendary offensive minds but the defenses have been what has kept these two teams winning games. On the road, I like Ole Miss to get the job done as slight underdogs but if we’re not taking the over in this game on Thanksgiving, we’ve got issues. If both teams reach 30 points, for our NCAAF picks, we’ll win the over and I fully expect that to happen.
