Oklahoma State vs. Kansas Free NCAA Basketball Picks for Valentine’s Day (Archive)

Originally published on February 14, 2022

The Oklahoma State Cowboys will look to pull off a huge upset, on the road, against the Kansas Jayhawks. Can we expect a close game in this Big 12 matchup?

Let’s break down the NCAAB odds for this game!

Oklahoma State Cowboys vs. Kansas Jayhawks

Monday, February 14, 2022 – 09:00 PM EST at Allen Fieldhouse

Betting Preview

It’s not the easiest thing playing on the road against the Kansas Jayhawks at Allen Fieldhouse. The Jayhawks are 20-4 on the season and are already double-digit favorites against Oklahoma State in tonight’s Big 12 matchup. The Cowboys have won two of their last three games but are currently 5-7 in conference play. The lack of wins is due to the offensive struggle for Oklahoma State.

The Cowboys are shooting an effective field goal percentage of just 48.6 percent while turning the ball over 21 percent of the time. While Oklahoma State has success on the offensive glass, earning 32.6 percent of offensive rebounds, the shooting is just miserable.

Oklahoma State is shooting 30.2 percent from three and an average of 50.2 percent from inside the arc. Oklahoma State does get to the line at a high rate but don’t bank on it against Kansas. The Jayhawks are above average in limiting fouls and have held opponents to a 47.6 percent effective field goal percentage.

Betting Analysis

Kansas has allowed just 30.2 percent from deep this season, so there’s a real good chance Oklahoma State only shoots about 30 percent from long range tonight. Inside the arc, Kansas has allowed teams to shoot under 49 percent. While Kansas might allow a high amount of offensive rebounds, the Jayhawks should also be able to earn a high amount of turnovers against Oklahoma State.

On the other side of the ball, it gets more excited. Kansas is ranked as the third-best offense in the nation while Oklahoma State is ranked as the 14th best defense in the nation via KenPom. The Jayhawks are shooting an effective field goal percentage of 55.8 percent while grabbing 34.4 percent offensive rebounds.

If you think that Oklahoma State will have some success on the offensive glass, know that the Jayhawks will likely be even better on the glass with Oklahoma State allowing teams to earn 31.6 percent offensive rebounds. Kansas is knocking down 36.2 percent from three and 56.5 percent from inside the arc while hitting above 70 percent from the foul line.

Meanwhile, outside of poor defensive rebounding, the Cowboys are elite, holding teams to 33 percent from deep and 44.6 percent from inside the arc on the year. Also, while Oklahoma State turns the ball over often, the Cowboys earn a whole lot of turnovers on the defensive end, totaling 23.8 percent per game.

Betting Prediction

I’d like to think 10.5 points for Kansas is just a little too much. Oklahoma State has struggled on the defensive glass, but other than that, the defense for the Cowboys has been spectacular.

On the offensive end, Oklahoma State will turn the ball over a little bit but can also earn second chance opportunities against Kansas. I’ll take Oklahoma State and the points, even on the road, for my NCAAB pick tonight.
