Just nine goals have been scored in this playoff series to date, it’s been a tight affair between the Carolina Hurricanes and New York Rangers but goals could be on the cards tonight.
With the Hurricanes up 2-1 and the next two games after tonight being played in Carolina, we expect the Rangers to even up the series before two road games but this isn’t our best play here, check out our best NHL pick at plus money for tonight’s game.
Tuesday, May 24, 2022 – 07:00 PM EDT at Madison Square Garden
New York have changed their tactical approach in this series, they enjoyed going toe to toe and catching the Penguins on the counterattack in the first round and all we need to do is look at the average goals from that series, 57 goals scored in 7 games for an average of 8.14 goals per game.
Whilst this series thus far has seen the Rangers weary of the Hurricanes and they have played a much more defensive-style game with just an average of 3 goals per game. The end of the previous game got a little nasty so we should see the Rangers come at the Hurricanes tonight and there could be a bunch of powerplays.
The Hurricanes have found it difficult to improve their road form as of late and have now gone on an 0-4 streak, in their previous few games. Beforehand haven’t been any better, losing 10 of their last 21, and 4 of their 11 wins came against non-playoff teams, as well as two overtime victories.
It’s not the worst road form but considering the Hurricanes had the 3rd best regular season record, it’s been one of their biggest weaknesses in the playoffs thus far this season. This series to date has been decided at home with each team playing at home having won.
The Hurricanes can put themselves in a prime position to take a 3-1 lead back to Carolina with a win in the Big Apple tonight.

The regular-season matches between these two teams produced an average of 6 goals per game, with just 1 of the 4 games going under 5.5 goals.
The goaltenders have been putting up some excellent numbers but they haven’t had to do a whole lot of work yet, and theirs been just 18 powerplays across the opening three games.
The over is our favorite play here at plus money, the Hurricanes on the road have seen 12 of their previous 15 go over 5.5 goals whilst New York has seen 9 of their last 15 home games see six or more goals.
Although it’s been a tight series so far, and likely will be until the end we are playing the over for today's matchup. It’s hard to call what the final score will be but we see either team winning 4-2, lets side with the Rangers because of home advantage and Carolinas woes on the road.
Predicted Score: Carolina 2-4 New York Rangers
NHL Pick: Over 5.5 Goals (+120) at BetOnline
