NHL Pick: First Period Under 1.5 Goals (-120) at BetOnline (visit our BetOnline Review)
It’s been a mismatch from the second the series was announced and thus far it’s proved to be correct with the heavy favorites Carolina taking a 2-0 lead on the road.
Prior to game one, the Hurricanes were as low as -250 at the top-rated sportsbooks to advance past the Islanders, and now they’re as low as -1000 on NHL odds.
For this game, we have a YouTube video featuring an extra pick as well as an extra one for the Panthers-Lightning Game 3.
Carolina Hurricanes vs. New York Islanders
Thursday, April 25, 2024 – 07:30 PM ET at UBS Arena
Islanders Would Like Slow Start
As we stated from game one, firstly the Islanders’ best chance to beat Carolina will be on home ice and secondly, they won’t want to get into a “who can score more” matchup because that most definitely won’t end well for the Islanders.
The Islanders will want to keep this game as tight as possible and if all goes to plan come away with a victory in a low-scoring affair, but little do they know there’s a Hurricanes coming to town.
The Hurricanes will be happy to bide their time and take their chances when they come in this first road game of the series, whilst the Islanders would very happily see two 0-0 periods and go for the win in the 3rd.
Not only is the theory on our side here but also the stats as the Islanders have seen the 3rd most amount of games go under 1.5 goals in the first period this season when playing on home ice. Carolina has a respectable 21-20 record to the under 1.5 goals in the first period when playing on the road (11th most in NHL).
The Pick
Carolina should win this matchup, but their odds aren’t worth it at -140 on the road. The Islanders are bad but it’s the playoffs after all.
