Since we cashed our banker last weekend between West Ham and Tottenham in the English Premier League, we have decided to go back to the well with this matchup between favored Liverpool against one of their biggest rivals Man Utd.
This is a very big game for both teams this season as a win here could pull Man Utd back into the title race, while Liverpool could possibly go top of the table if Brighton can hold off Manchester City, so let’s get into the Premier League odds for this Matchday 9.
Sunday, October 24, 2021 – 11:30 AM EDT at Old Trafford
The Red Devils have been unbelievably inconsistent thus far this season, and it all looked to be going swimmingly with the return of the GOAT (Cristiano Ronaldo), unfortunately, since then most of their draws and wins have come from last-minute goals, and miraculous comebacks.
Yes, somehow they manage to find themselves within four points of 2nd place, Liverpool. Ole Gunnar Soljkaers was VERY lucky they scraped by Atalanta in mid-week when they were down 2-0 only to come back and win 3-2 (late Ronaldo winner, wouldn’t you know).
Their biggest issue here is conceding goals, they can’t seem to keep them out lately and their strikers are having to make up for it with 3-2 last-minute goal victories. The manager’s job could already be done with the bosses but for now, all he can do is try his best, although this is going to be a very tough game against an in-form, red-hot Liverpool team. Meanwhile united are like Ole’s merry men, hard to trust them at the best of times.
Liverpool comes into this game having had an impressive 3-2 victory over Atletico Madrid away from home in their midweek UCL fixture. It took a Mo Salah penalty to secure the win for the scousers. They will be disappointed to have conceded twice to Atletico, but you really can’t complain when you come away from the Wanda Metropolitano with 3 points.
If Liverpool picks up the win here it would be the first time since 2002 that they claimed back-to-back victories at Old Trafford. Liverpool can really lay down their title credentials here and make a big statement with a win.
Man Utd had a brief spell of success since Ronaldo’s return but Ole Gunnar Soljkaers has relied on too many comebacks to save his skin; this is a must-win game for Man Utd. On the other hand, we have a Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool team who have not lost an away competitive match in the previous 13 outings.
Although Liverpool won here last time 4-2, these affairs between the two cities are usually tight and low scoring. With that being said 50% of the previous 10 games have seen over 2.5 goals scored and 40% of those actually seen over 3.5 goals scored. We can’t trust Man Utd, they are poor at the back, inconsistent, really too much on their strikers.
Man Utd has conceded 10 goals this season, the most amount (tied with West Ham) from any team inside the top nine. Furthermore, we have seen Liverpool score 22 goals, the most in the Premier League. We see a 3-1, 2-0, 3-0 sort of Liverpool victory here, so we love them on the moneyline at +130 with the best sportsbooks.
Our official play and weekend banker is Liverpool to score over 1.5 team goals at -120 with BetOnline (visit our BetOnline Review). As we said, they have scored the most goals in the Premier League, and their previous ten away games have seen them score at least two goals.
Mo Salah is possibly in the form of his life, having had the most shots in the league of any player this season at 33 and has scored seven goals in eight appearances this season. Liverpool are dangerous, their manager is tactically better in our opinion and Man Utd would do well to come away with a victory in this big Premier League clash. Can Harry McGuire seriously be a formidable defender for this Liverpool team? We think not so that’s our soccer pick for this week.
