Czech Republic vs. Denmark Euro 2020 Quarterfinals Picks and Expert Analysis (Archive)

Originally published on July 3, 2021

Czech Republic earned themselves a matchup against the tournaments default “favorite team” thanks to their amazing performances both on and off the pitch at this year’s Euro 2020 competition. Was the Czechs display against the Netherlands their final per say? Or will we see another valiant effort from Patrick Schick and co.

Czech Republic vs. Denmark

Saturday, July 3, 2021 – 12:00 PM EST at Baku Olympic Stadium

Czechs Prove Too Strong For The Dutch

The Czech’s managed to not concede a single shot on target last time out against the Netherlands, it was the first time the Dutch side didn’t manage a single shot on target in a European championship game since 1980. Interestingly, the Dutch have only ever received four red cards ever in the European Championship, all coming against Czechoslovakia and the Czech Republic. The Czechs have been a bogey team for this nation and proved so last time out as they went down to 10 men and ultimately lost 2-0. So was the Czech Republic that good? Or was the Netherlands that Bad? We believe it to be a bit of both. The Czech’s played well and deserved their 2-0 win, but the Netherlands offered absolutely nothing going forward and most likely would have struggled to beat North Macedonia with that display.

Denmark Blows Wales Away

Demark were a joy to watch in their last 16 tie against the Welsh, they never stopped attacking and never allowed the Wales players to settle into the game. A fantastic 4-0 victory for the Dans showed everyone their not here just to make up the numbers and given their surprise exit from their group after failing to win either of their opening two games, this could be written in the stars that they go all the way. Well, at least that’s what most people who are neutral’s would like to see happen. They have become everybody’s “second” favorite team. What we love about this team is their determination to keep attacking and not sitting back and allowing the opposition to come at them, the best form of defense is to attack, and Denmark have that down to perfection when they manage to take the lead in a game.

Czech Republic vs. Denmark Prediction

The Danes will be hoping to make their third ever appearance in the semi finals of this competition with a win over the Czech’s in this quarter finals matchup. Denmark’s attack, attack, attack approach should serve them well here against this Czech team who haven’t really been pushed to the limit thus far this season. They managed to come away with a win against Scotland in a game were they were poor; many people look past that fact because they won that game (thanks to a Patrick Shick wonder goals).

Besides the Scottish game they haven’t had to deal with a whole lot, England beat them 1-0 and didn’t look too bothered to score more, the draw with Croatia was always going to be a battle in the midfield and as discussed, the Netherlands didn’t show up. We believe they have finally met their match coming up against this full of confidence, on fire Danish team who have now netted eight goals in their previous two outings.

Although we do believe there is a possibility for both teams to get on the scoresheet as the Czechs’ target man, Shick has scored four goals in this years tournament. Another player likely to get on the scoresheet is Kasper Dolberg, who netted twice last time out, he was Yussuf Poulsen’s replacement in the previous game and it looks like he will start the game against the Czech’s. Both players are a nice +225 to score anytime, and we believe one of the two will find the back of the net, meaning we profit once one of them scores. Both players to have a shot on target in a combo is best priced up at -130 with the best online sportsbooks.

However our official play for this game is over 2.0 goals, we don’t believe this will be a defensive game playing out a 0-0 draw. Both these teams have seen three of their four games have two or more goals in this years tournament, and as discussed, Denmark’s previous two games seen a total of nine goals scored. Take the over 2.0 Asian goal line in this game, meaning if we end on two goals we will get a push, we should see two goals here at the very least.
