The Dodgers came from behind again to defeat the Chicago Cubs and have now extended their winning streak to six. Today, the Dodgers will look to sweep the Cubs, at home, in a four-game series. Can Los Angeles pull it off?
Let’s see what the MLB odds tell us at the top sportsbooks! Here are our picks and predictions for today’s game between the Cubs and Dodgers.
Sunday, July 10, 2022 – 04:10 PM EDT at Dodger Stadium
The Los Angeles Dodgers continue to win. The Dodgers defeated the Chicago Cubs in another come-from-behind victory, winning 4-2.
Los Angeles will be going for the sweep against the Cubs tonight and currently hold a 55-29 record on the season.
Meanwhile, the Cubs are looking for answers right now, holding a 34-51 record on the season.
Chicago is in rebuild mode and does have a bunch of injuries, but overall, the Cubs were never supposed to be in the race this season anyway.
The Chicago Cubs will send out Drew Smyly, who is 2-5 with a 3.80 ERA on the season. The lefty has put up respectable numbers this season and hasn’t pitched since May 30 due to injury.
On the season, Smyly has a 4.28 xFIP with just 18.9% of strikeouts. However, he’s limited walks, earned plenty of ground balls, and has allowed just 17.2% of line drives this season.
Meanwhile, another lefty, Julio Urias, will get the call for the Cubs. He’s 7-6 with a 2.57 ERA on the season. In the last 30 days, he’s holding a 3.35 xFIP with 32.7% of strikeouts and just 5.3% of walks.
Urias is improving as the season progresses and has been extremely consistent as of late.
The Cubs’ rotation is getting healthier. That’s going to help their cause. Marcus Stroman pitched effectively last night and now it’ll be Drew Smyly’s turn tonight.
The Dodgers aren’t all that great against lefties, to begin with. However, again, they do have more potential in comparison to Chicago against lefties.
Smyly can be stretched out, but the Cubs aren’t going to push it. Then the bullpen will come in and find a way to blow the game open, like all series.
On the other hand, Julio Urias has been consistently good for the Dodgers. Forget his 7-6 record. He has a 2.57 ERA on the year and a very good xFIP in the last 30 days for Los Angeles.
The Cubs rarely produce walks and are hitting more than 50% of ground balls in the last 30 days against lefties. Urias isn’t a huge ground-ball pitcher, but he’ll get grounders from time to time.
As long as Urias can escape the top of the order, he should have no problem pitching to the bottom of the order, which is just filled with below-average numbers against lefties in mostly every department.
For my MLB picks of the day, I’m going to grab the Under in this game, with the number sitting at 8.5.
I’m not thrilled with either lineup tonight against lefties. It’s hard to know how Smyly will pitch tonight, but ultimately, he’s been good for the Cubs when on the mound.
Meanwhile, Urias has been terrific and will take on a Cubs lineup that isn’t scoring many runs right now, to begin with.
