The Colts have started the season 0-3 thanks to a bunch of big injuries and terrible pass protection. Can Indianapolis overcome these injuries to beat the Dolphins, who also lost their starting quarterback to injury? Let’s see the NFL odds.

The Colts have started the season 0-3. I can’t say most analysts saw this coming. But against a difficult schedule to start the season and injuries to multiple pieces on this team, the Colts are winless. Now they’ll take on a former starting quarterback of Indianapolis in Jacoby Brissett, who will take over for the injured Tua Tagovailoa in Miami.
The Colts will take on their old friend. He’s not an enemy and while it’s early in the season, the Colts are desperate for a win. To start training camp, it was injury after injury for this team. Starting quarterback Carson Wentz has led the Colts to just 56 points in three games this season.
They’re missing multiple assignments and tackles and just don’t look right on the field. The Colts have allowed 80 points in three games this season and that’s just not going to win games. Tua Tagovailoa started for the Dolphins this season but has since landed on the Injured Reserve. The Dolphins haven’t protected their quarterbacks in pass protection, much like the Colts. That’s one of the reasons Brissett will be under center in this game.
The offensive lines for both teams have been abysmal and can’t stop pass rushes. I will say the Dolphins have the better pass rush but the Colts can be really good, looking at their pass rush on paper. Anyway, the Dolphins are allowing 418 yards per game on defense, but that’s with an additional quarter of football after their 31-28 loss in overtime last week. The Dolphins hung around after a terrible previous week losing to the Bills, 35-0.
This is an evenly matched game and a game where I’d expect the Colts to come out strong. Carson Wentz needs to figure something out because he’s coming in for Phillip Rivers who retired just last year. Wentz can’t let a “retired” player outperform him. Both teams are struggling to score points and allowing plenty. The Dolphins have struggled a bit more offensively but it’s pretty even in comparison.
The Colts likely know some of Brissett’s tendencies and will likely find a way to exploit his weaknesses. For our NFL picks, let’s ride the Colts as small underdogs on the road against the Dolphins here. They’re going to have to overcome all of their injuries sooner than later and with plenty of notable names questionable, we might see this team have success with a couple of guys returning.
