Biggest Line Movers of NFL Week 8 (Archive)

Originally published on October 29, 2021

It’s been a bloodbath for the top sportsbooks in the last three weeks with favorites covering and underdogs struggling to win for these books. Eventually, the tide is going to turn so it’s a good idea to follow the line movement in this week’s games to know where the public is on this week.

The reason for line movement can vary between injuries, sharp betting, and weather. Always do more research to understand why the line moved if you’re interested in betting a particular game.

Keep reading for a breakdown of the biggest line movers in the NFL odds for Week 8:

Colts -2.5 (-110)

Opened +1 (-110)
Currently -2.5 (-110)

The Tennessee Titans are 5-2 on the year but that hasn’t stopped people from betting the 3-4 Colts to beat the Titans at home. The Colts’ offense is starting to catch fire with 30 or more points in their last two games.

However, the Titans have won three straight with surprising wins over the Bills and Chiefs, at home. People aren’t really buying the hype for the Titans, as they also lost to the Jets earlier this year. Also, beating the Chiefs isn’t that impressive this year either.

Both of the Titans’ big wins against the Bills and Chiefs came at home. Now they’ll be on the road against the Colts and have now become underdogs.

Bengals -10.5 (-110)

Opened -8.5 (-110)
Currently -10.5 (-110)

The Bengals just took care of business against the Baltimore Ravens on the road and will now get a much easier opponent in the Jets. This line went higher when the Jets announced they had traded for Joe Flacco and then insisted that backup quarterback Mike White would get the start. White, a 26-year-old out of Western Kentucky, is someone you’ve never heard of.

It’s completely fine. Not even Jets fans knew who he was. With White starting against Joe Burrow, it’s a huge mismatch and the line has reflected that.

Why would the Jets trade for Flacco, knowing he won’t be able to make it to New York until Friday or Saturday? It makes no sense to me. But that’s how the Jets organization works.

Vikings -2.5 (-110)

Opened +1(-110)
Currently -2.5 (-110)

I guess there’s a real concern for Dak Prescott and his calf strain. The line movement has suggested Prescott actually won’t play in this game. If Prescott was starting, the lines would be in favor of the Cowboys.

So now there’s doubt if Prescott can play and that would mean Cooper Rush or Will Grier would have to step in and play quarterback. At that point, on primetime television, it would be hard for either one of those quarterbacks to make big plays.

The Cowboys would just have to run the football as much as they could without Prescott under center. The Vikings are also sneaky against the run and a sneaky defense.

This line can shift back to the Cowboys being favorites if Prescott does end up playing. Nothing is confirmed and I’m sure the Cowboys are doing everything that they can to help Prescott get out there on Sunday night.
