Best Stanley Cup Playoffs Player Props to Consider for May 13 (Archive)

Originally published on May 13, 2022

All three games on tonight’s card are “do or die games” with a 3-2 series scoreline in all three of the games. The Pittsburgh Penguins are the only team-leading 3-2 that are playing on home ice, both the Calgary Flames and Washington Capitals are on the road.

Let’s check out what NHL playoff props we are on tonight.

New York Rangers vs. Pittsburgh Penguins

Friday, May 13, 2022 – 07:00 PM EDT at PPG Paints Arena

Jake Guentzel #59 | Pittsburgh Penguins

Jake Guentzel has averaged 6 shots per game across this series so far and has taken the 2nd most amount of shots in the playoffs thus far (although he did play one game less than 1st placed David Pastrnak). On top of this, the Penguins have taken the most shots in the playoffs this season a total of 234.

Guentzel has managed to take 6/7/3/6/8 in the series thus far. With the Penguins one win away from victory we see another shooting bombardment on the Rangers goaltender and expect Guentzel to cover his shots over.

Florida Panthers vs. Washington Capitals

Friday, May 13, 2022 – 07:30 PM EDT at Capital One Arena

Carter Verhaeghe #23 | Florida Panthers

We were pleasantly shocked to see Carter Verhaeghe pick up just one point tonight at NHL odds of -115, we were expecting these odds to be much closer to -140. Verhaeghe is the third-highest points scorer thus far in the playoffs with a total of 5 goals and 5 assists.

The 26-year-old Canadian has been the Panthers' highest points scorer by a long shot, having had 5 points more than Aleksander Barkov and six points more than Claude Giroux and Aaron Ekblad.

Verhaeghe was just the Panthers' 6th highest points scorer in the regular season, every season we see regular-season players step up to take mark and Verhaeghe seems to be doing that here, we don’t see why he wouldn’t get opportunities to get one on the board tonight.

T.J. Oshie #77 | Washington Capitals

Oshie has stepped up in the big games yet again and has bagged himself 5 goals in the opening 5 playoff games. Scoring a goal in 4 of the 5 games. In the only game, he didn’t manage a goal his team only scored once in the entire game.

The Panthers have not been able to slow down the experienced Washington Capitals and 35-year-old veteran T.J Oshie has been able to capitalize and has now scored 30 goals in 71 playoff games for the Washington Capitals.

We like Oshie’s odds at +200 to get on the scoreboard again tonight, the Panthers clearly haven’t been able to slow down the Capitals and if the Panthers are going to win this game tonight, we feel they will have to outscore Washington as we see the Capitals scoring at least three goals on home ice and hopefully, Oshie at +200 is amongst them.

For those who are looking to get on Oshie over 0.5 points, it is currently juiced to -130, which might not be worth it considering he is +160 to pick up an assist. It’s better to almost just bet both goals and assist as a single.

Calgary Flames vs. Dallas Stars

Friday, May 13, 2022 – 09:30 PM EDT at American Airlines Center

Johnny Gaudreau #13 | Calgary Flames

We cannot believe the line for Gaudreau is set at over 2.5, albeit they have included a lot of juice on that at -135, but we believe this bet is a winner and at those prop betting odds we are actually quite happy to make a play here. We couldn’t find an over 3.5 total shots line but we suspect the odds on this are around +110/+120 which is another bet we also like here.

Gaudreau has had 14 shots across the opening five games, although he did struggle in the first and last game where he didn’t manage a single shot, on two other occasions he managed 5 and 6 shots respectively, the Flames are looking to KO the Stars tonight and Calgary will be aiming to put pressure on the Stars goaltender.
