2022 Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships Best Bets for February 23 (Archive)

Originally published on February 22, 2022

The tennis action continues in Dubai as the ATP 500 tournament progresses. We have had some upsets in the first round, but many of the world’s top players remain, vying for 500 ranking points.

Let’s take a look at today’s matches to find the winning tennis picks.

Andy Murray vs. Jannik Sinner

Wednesday, February 23, 2022 – 05:00 AM EST at Center Court

Andy Murray Betting Preview

Andy Murray is a popular player on tour. Murray's fighting spirit and charming press conferences have led him to be a fan favorite around the world. Murray thought his career was over when he needed to have a hip replacement surgery. However, he was able to rehab and is now competing on a surgically-repaired hip, a feat that many thought was not possible.

It is a victory for Murray to simply be competing out there. However, he is nowhere near the player that he once was when he was a grand slam champion. Murray can, at times, summon his old brilliance in certain matches. Yet he has been inconsistent in finding that top form and has struggled against today's top players.

Murray won his first-round match against Chris O'Connell 6-7, 6-3, 7-5. After being broken in the first set, he was not broken for the rest of the match. Murray will once again need to be effective on service games going against his opponent today, Jannik Sinner.

Jannik Sinner Betting Preview

Jannik Sinner is one of the up-and-coming players ready to move into the elite of the tennis world. The Italian is currently ranked number 10 in the world and has the potential to be number 1 as his career continues.

Sinner started his tournament with a three-set victory over Alejandro Davidovich Fokina 6-4, 6-7, 6-3. Sinner was two points away from losing the match to Fokina but was able to rally back to get the victory. The Italian made the quarterfinal here in ATP Dubai, last season. He will be looking to defend his ranking points from that performance.

The Pick

I think the talented young Sinner will be too much for the gritty veteran Murray today. He is starting to come together and at his best, he is truly one of the strongest players in the game.

While Murray can find those flashes of brilliance at times, I'm not convinced that we will see it here today. As inspiring as Murray's effort is, I believe that his tournament will come to an end today.

The Italian youngster just has too much on the baseline for Murray. In any extended rally, Sinner should have the advantage. Our first bet for today's ATP Dubai event is Jannik Sinner -3.5 games.

Mackenzie McDonald vs. Filip Krajinovic

Wednesday, February 23, 2022 - 06:20 AM EST at Court 1

Mackenzie McDonald Betting Preview

Mackenzie McDonald was able to avenge his Australian Open loss to Aslan Karatsev yesterday. The American defeated Karatsev, who was the defending champion here at Dubai 7-5, 6-3. In the match, McDonald showcased his huge first serve which propelled him to victory.

McDonald served an incredible 15 Aces and had only 4 double faults. He was also poised when it counted, saving 88% (7-8) of break points while converting 80% (4-5) of his break point opportunities. He definitely showed he could come through in the clutch. It was McDonald's strongest performance of the season.

The American has struggled with consistency in 2022, however. McDonald has yet to advance past the second round in any tournament that he has entered. He'll need to go deeper into tournaments if he wants to improve on his current world ranking of number 61.

Filip Krajinovic Betting Preview

Filip Krajinovic struggled in his opening-round match but managed to get the victory. He beat the Tunisian Malek Jaziri 6-7, 6-2, 6-4. After a tight first set, Krajinovic was able to settle down and win in a rather routine fashion.

Krajinovic struggled with his serve in this match, only landing 53% of first serves. Fortunately, that was enough for him to overcome Jaziri, but he will need to serve better today if he wants to have a chance to beat Mackenzie McDonald. If Krajinovic can land his first serve, he will have a great chance to win.

The Pick

Although McDonald played well yesterday, I think he is far too heavily favored by ATP odds. The American has struggled with consistency this year, and just because he played well in his last match does not necessarily mean that his form will carry over.

Krajinovic has been more consistent in 2022, as shown in his performance in Montpellier where he made the semifinals before falling to Alexander Bublik. At the price listed, the value is on Krajinovic. Our second bet for today's ATP Dubai event is Filip Krajinovic ML.
