PA Supreme Court Upholds PGCB Licensing Decision for SugerHouse and Foxwoods |
|
HARRISBURG, Pa., July 17 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Pennsylvania Supreme Court today affirmed the licensing decision of the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board to award a Category 2 slot machine license to HSP Gaming, LP (SugerHouse Casino) and Philadelphia Entertainment and Development Partners, LP (Foxwoods Casino). The ruling was a result of an appeal filed by Riverwalk Casino, LP, one of the applicants denied a license in December by the Board for a stand-alone slot operator license in Philadelphia. Gaming Control Board Chairman Tad Decker said the Board appreciates the very difficult task that the Supreme Court had to undertake in resolving these complex appeals. "We have been very confident from the start that a fair and thorough process was provided to all applicants which resulted in the Court's affirmation of the Board's decision," Decker said. "The Court's decision is another significant step toward fulfilling the Legislature's vision to establish legalized gaming in the city of Philadelphia and producing tax dollars and jobs that will benefit all Pennsylvanians." Under the state Gaming Act, the Supreme Court is vested with exclusive appellate jurisdiction to consider appeals of any final order, determination or decision of the board involving the approval, issuance, denial or conditioning of a slot machine license.
