The German subsidiary of Bwin International lodged a lawsuit against the state of Baden-Wuerttemberg claiming that the German state treaty on gambling scheduled to come into effect in 2008 violates the article 49 (freedom to provide service) of the EC Treaty.
The administrative court in Stuttgart recently referred three other cases filed against the state of Baden-Württemberg to the European Court of Justice.
In other news, German lottery operator Tipp24 said in a statement that one or more unknown investors are trying to acquire a large interest in the company for a purchase price that is higher than the current share price. "We interpret this as the possible beginning of an attempt to take over the company," commented Tipp24 founder Jens Schumann.
The company, which also runs Ventura24 in Spain and Puntogioco24 in Italy, also announced record earnings of EUR 2.9 million during the third quarter of the financial year.
