While the Daily Telegraph revealed details of documents proving that the current chief of staff of Labor Leader Kevin Rudd lobbied the State Government to allow Betfair to operate in New South Wales, the Chief Executive of Australia's largest betting operator asked Victorian premier John Brumby and NSW Premier Morris Iemma to ban betting exchanges and to introduce a 2% turnover fee for all corporate bookmakers.
In other news, the Sidney Morning Herald reported the details of a letter sent by Racing Odds' Luke Behrmann announcing that he will scale down his operations at Sidney race meetings moving RacingOdds to the outer ring from the interstate ring. "The interstate ring in particular has been decimated by technology," Behrmann wrote in the letter. "Where once interstate markets were a product of limited supply, now it has no relevance at all as punters can access these markets from many sources, usually before the bookmaker themselves.
Elsewhere, Churchill Downs merged the three online betting sites acquired for $80 million in June, Brisbet.com, Tsnbet.com and Winticket.com, into its TwinSpires.com site.
