28-06-2007 Ladbrokes keen to compete in Sweden and Greece

The UK bookmaker Ladbrokes called on the European Commission to continue pushing for free competition in the betting sector. Ladbrokes eGaming Managing Director John O'Reilly told the Irish Independent: "The EU Commission is showing strong resolve on this issue and we urge them to continue to enforce the EU Treaty."

It is quite wrong that Ladbrokes must compete against the French monopoly-run Euro Millions lottery in the UK, when we are banned from operating betting and gaming services in France," said O'Reilly. "We are also keen to compete in other markets in the EU, particularly Sweden and Greece where the betting markets are established."

Meanwhile, despite the EU confirmed one more time that there is no real possibility the member states will agree on common online gambling rules, the socialist party in Spain asked the Spanish Government to push for a European framework regulating internet gambling.
