28-06-2006 Italian sports betting concessionaires ask for more betting shops

The sports betting business is registering a dizzy increase in Italy thanks also to the soccer World Cup, with a total turnover at the end of June of EUR 1,1 billion.

In separate news, Adrian Morris, Finance Director for Stanley Betting International, told SportBet, a new Italian newspaper dedicated to sports betting, that Stanley expects the European Court of Justice to rule in its favour in the Placanica case. "Stanley operates under a UK bookmaker's permit which must be renewed every three years. The court of justice already confirmed in the Gamp Valley case that Stanley's agents operate legally and that the reasons claimed by the Italian state are wrong," said Morris.
