28-02-2008 Gambling consultant says Asian sportsbooks need to move away from soccer betting

As reported by the Macau Daily Times, Lorien Pilling said at the Asian i-Gaming conference that online sports betting sites servicing the Asian market need to interest their customers in other sports and move away from soccer betting which is eating into their margins.

In other news, a Vietnamese court jailed members of an illegal online betting ring for up to 15 years for taking bets on European soccer matches. Elsewhere, the Xinhua news agency said the gambling crackdown activities of the Chinese Ministry of Public Security proved fruitful with over 1 million arrests and almost $300m confiscated in 2007.
